Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin indicated Sunday night that he did not want offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva to stand for the national anthem, instead of sitting it out with the rest of his teammates.
Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, was the only Steelers player to stand for the anthem. While Villanueva stood in the tunnel, hand over his heart, the rest of the team remained in the locker room in protest of President Trumps comments that players who kneel during the national anthem should be fired. WATCH:
Tomlin said in a post-game press conference that he was looking for 100 percent participation in whatever course of action the team took during the national anthem.
When asked by a reporter about Villanueva coming out for the anthem, Tomlin said, Like I said, I was looking for 100 percent participation, we were gonna be respectful of our football team.
Villaneuva played in college at West Point Military Academy before going on to become an Army Ranger. He served three tours in Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor. He signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2014, before later joining the Steelers.
...Wonder if this guy will still have a job in the morning...
I had the same thoughts about Tomlin.
The NFL can go to Hell.
He should sue the steelers for creating a hostile work environment
It’s called integrity, Coach. Google it.
Tomlin should be fired.
This Mike Tomlin sounds like a complete coward.
And there is no reason nor expectation for any veteran of any branch of the armed forces to ever even entertain following the orders of such a coward.
But but but
He had his RIGHTS to stand
Oh wait
Not those rights
Tomlin is a COWARD and the only true MAN (Villanueva) on that sorry Steelers team defied him and stood up for his country. I’m a US Army Combat Infantryman and I spit on all you multimillionaire NFL COWARDS who kneel and don’t show before our flag and National Anthem. Go play football in a third world craphole like those I fought in. They are a bunch of sniveling brats.

Thank you, that made me LOL.
$175 for his jersey on Ebay..!!!
Have a job?
As the photo above will attest, this guy’s going to be an ICON by tomorrow morning.
Besides, as another poster noted, the coaching staff was on the field as well.
Does the athlete gain by the sales of his shirts,or does the NFL? (I really don’t know.)
.
Tomlin did what Rooney wanted. What they both wanted. Remember the late lamented Dan Jr. was an Obama butt boy.
I hope this whole rotten edifice falls.
Looks like it.
$10 says every Pittsburgh player will be standing respectfully on the sideline during the national anthem before their next game.
The US SC has ruled twice that they are not a monopoly.
His football card, $380
NFL
Both. The player gets a portion of each sale. The important part is the message it sends.
The ne pats have two or three ..
