A political group with close ties to President Donald Trump is amplifying his attack on professional athletes who kneel during the national anthem as a form of protest.
Turn off the NFL, reads a digital ad produced by the nonprofit America First Policies, which planned to begin spreading the message on social media Sunday afternoon.
The ad includes a photo with Trump, hand over his heart, and a #TakeAStandNotAKnee hashtag. It follows Trumps recent remarks, first delivered during a Friday night speech in Alabama, aimed at football players who have protested police brutality and other causes.
While campaigning for Luther Strange, who is locked in a tough Republican primary to keep the Alabama Senate seat he was appointed to earlier this year, Trump asked those in the audience if they would "love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'get that son of a bitch off the field right now.'" He added that such players should be fired.
Trump continued the attack over the weekend on Twitter.
If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem, Trump posted in a series of tweets. "If not, YOU'RE FIRED. Find something else to do!
NFL team owners and players reacted strongly and disapprovingly to Trumps push.

It is contained within the NFL Game Operations Manual.
Yup, it's showing their arrogance is of biblical proportions.

You still haven’t shown any proof of that!
Heard there is a bill in congress that is now picking up momentum!
Bill will end $3 billion in Federal Subsidies that helps the NFL finance its new stadiums! If Trump really wants to nail the NFL, he can strip them if their tax exempt status and also take away their anti-trust exemption!
Couple these things with totally end DOD/military partnership with the NFL can really isolate the NFL and put them in a bad spot! Trump will have the major Veterans Organizations behind him as both the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars have condemned the NFL for these Flag/Anthem protests!
Ok I did some more searching; its in the game operations manual per this story:
http://ktla.com/2017/09/25/do-nfl-rules-require-players-to-stand-during-the-national-anthem/
which cites Time Inc; they say its from the game ops manual, not the rulebook:

Ping to where that info came from
The NFL rulebook makes no mention of the national anthem. But the game operations manual does.
Heres what the game operations manual says regarding the national anthem, according to an NFL spokesperson:
The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.
During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking.
The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition.
It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country.
Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.
Saying that LOUD AND PROUD !

They are Useful Idiots.. They are always clueless.
Was Kappernitwit fined for wearing those socks depicting cops as pigs? Doubt it.
“The manual dictates exact times for teams leaving the locker rooms, player introductions, the national anthem (two minutes maximum) and the coin toss.”
The manual is a secret document but it controls every aspect of putting on the game.

In an email, Brian McCarthy, the NFLs vice president of communications, shared the portion of the manual that addresses the anthem, and that language is what has been shared on social media but mistakenly attributed to the rulebook.

Actually I think there is a definite relationship between the culture war in the NFL vs Trump voters and the culture war in liberal vs conservative policy. When you submit in something as seemingly unimportant yet national as the NFL thug demands, how will you stand against the commie thug demands regarding taxes and national security and the border.
I say: “If they take a knee, give’em the FINGER!!”
Well, there could always be a flyover just as the protesting team is trying to kick a long field goal...
(Just kidding - likely not practical.)
If I complained / protested about some political or social issue on company time, unless my boss (owner) initiated the conversation, I'd be warned on 1st offense, fired the 2nd. Our customers are not paying for such activities. Nor will I, in your case. If your (NFL) employees want to beef on their own time, instead of game time, that's fine with me. But until that is the case, your product no longer interests me.
I have no desire to listen to / watch a bunch of overpaid dweebs who probably don't even know the statistics of who is killing whom. If I want to view a game, I probably just want to watch a game.
"Just play ball."
I still haven’t seen this mysterious secret manual that you believe because you saw someone say it was true on the internet.
As I have said is it is top secret. But if you read what the NFL vice President sent to the reporter it confirms that the rules are what they are. They were just miss reported as an NFL rulebook rule and not the operations manual rule.
