As part of a wave of protests throughout the NFL in the wake of President Donald Trump's NFL-related comments, the Steelers will not be on the field for the playing of the national anthem before their game against the Bears on Sunday.
Coach Mike Tomlin told CBS his team would remain in the locker room for the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

This is a direct consequence of the 9/11 moslem attack on our country.
1. Moslems attack.
2. Bush went to war to defend the US and pacify the enemy. Leftists saw it as discriminatory against all moslems. The division starts.
3. In reaction, zero-accomplishment part-term senator from Illinois with a good tan becomes POTUS. He had the most radical leftist positions of any US senator. He flagrantly violates the constitution, moves the country radically to the left, pays our enemies (e.g. Iran) to destroy us, and works tirelessly to subvert the 2016 US presidential election.
4. Eight years of the racist mullatto president thoroughly sets back race relations by 50 years or more. He stirs up minority resentment and they start killing cops all over the land.
The moslems and bin Laden have succeeded beyond their wildest dreams tearing the country apart and destroying it, right down to our constitutional roots. This destruction is FAR worse than the $1 trillion and 3,000 souls that 9/11 cost us.
We’d be peacefully watching Sunday NFL games without politics and racial division if moslems had not attacked us.
I did say it was an act of cowardice.
FU Steelers!!!
Most of your get paid millions of dollars to play a children’s game...money that comes from the fans ... and then you have the nerve to insult your fans like THIS!?
FU Steelers!
What the NFL is doing is forcing fans to pick between a bunch of thug supporters who disrespect the flag/country/heritage of America and America. This is no longer just about the BLM and Police brutality. It has escalated way beyond that. If they aren’t careful; this will escalate into a race war. Next thing you know the blacks will burn down their own neighborhoods... again.
Got news for the NFL. The people will pick America. Those who don’t, well, I’ve got no use for them and will take notice who they are.
The real irony is this is all based on a lie. The police normally use more force on blacks only when they resist and fail to follow directions. The place to fight the police for perceived injustice is in the courtrooms; not the streets. I think big mouths get more people in trouble than anything else.
You and me both, FRiend !
Just listened to Tomlin’s interview, sounds like his reasoning is to keep the kneeling players off the field and not showcase them to cause divisiveness with fans and other players. Says he respects the anthem. Don’t agree with this tactic but it sounds like he’s just trying to avoid controversy.
It’s insane.
It is Gold Star Mothers Day. Lets remember the Mom whose sons have died in service to US instead of the dreadlocked perfumed princes.
Big heads, unfortunately still weigh less than they should.
“...He is admitting he cant control his players. ...”
He;s admitting that he’s too cowardly to control his players.
At the end of the day, it’s a business, and he can bench their worthless asses.
Oh, but that won’t be permitted.
It’s infuriating. These people are so ungrateful to their country and millions of supporters.
How is not supporting the flag before the game “focusing on football” only? Having the team hide in the locker room so there is no controversy is DISSING THE FLAG AS WELL AS THE US MILITARY from General Washington to the guy who died in Afghanistan yesterday (or whenever). One half step farther from cowering away from the controversial Stars and Stripes, and you have to admit this, is BANNING THE FLAG AND ANTHEM from NFL games or all sports events.
Soon the flag won’t be in any classrooms, or public buildings, or anywhere as “USA” cements as a Racist Concept.
Our only hope to connect our freedom and our unique experiment in self government with the public who loves sporting events is to proudly remind all audiences why it is we can sit and cheer and drink beer. Because people fought and died for our freedoms. I believe this is an important part of our nation. Our military needs to remind the NFL what exactly the flag and anthem MEAN at games. Symbols mean things and this is huge.
We don’t put money or hurling spheroids ahead of our freedom, our nation. The flag needs to stay. Players need to pay respect to those who fought for their right to earn those bucks.
I know, buddy.
That’s why I said “respectfully”.
My hope is that people will cheer wildly at the playing of the National Anthem and then boo the Steelers when they enter but I am not holding my breath.
As for my own household, I cannot convince my husband to turn off his beloved Eagles today. “I already paid for the NFL package” was his reply. I tried, I really did. Sigh.
He can’t avoid it. Unless policy has changed in the last few hours, NFL policy dictates teams be in the field for the anthem. Has the NFL rescinded the policy? If not, then why are the Steelers being allowed to violate it?
Mike Tomlin, congratulations, you have been successfully terrorized.
You, and your alleged team are now authorized to wear that "special" pink hat to all games.
BTW, your players will very quickly find new ways to disrespect our Flag and fine Country on camera. Just watch.
Cancel the game.
What I’d like to see: PO’ed fans of either team waiting until either team gets into the red zone, then as soon as the team with the ball breaks its huddle, the fans should stand up and start singing. The anthem, Yankee Doodle, the macarena. Anything. And do that for the entire fricking game. THAT I would tune in to see.
****There will be a brief time of outrage and then fans will return****
Its also possible that some of those fans will find that they enjoy the time spent on other activities more than they did watching football.
