As part of a wave of protests throughout the NFL in the wake of President Donald Trump's NFL-related comments, the Steelers will not be on the field for the playing of the national anthem before their game against the Bears on Sunday.
Coach Mike Tomlin told CBS his team would remain in the locker room for the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner.

Lives, fortunes, sacred honor. It was worth it for our founders. We’ll see about NFL players.
We’ve heard Jerry Jones will not be supportive of his players protesting during the anthem. But do you really think he would cut one of his star players?
Honey, Let’s not take the Kids to the Stadium. Those Taking the Knee are a Bad Example for Them.
When I took my job that I worked at for 35 years, I had to sign an agreement that I would do nothing that would shine a bad light on the company's famous logo.
So while I worked for this company a portion of my free speech was limited.
I now sit on a board where I am not free to go to the newspaper and talk about my personal views of the issues the board deals with. Again my free speech is limited.
But I can always choose not to work for the company or sit on the board with these restrictions.
The players are free to resign their jobs and do as they please, but while on the job their behavior is unacceptable.
Thank you
No it is a dumb move. If his players are not willing to even go on the field to respect the flag, then they are nothing but a bunch of loser sissies and ingrates. Screw Tomlin and the horse he is hiding in the stable.
The NFL is done. Put a fork in them.
“..FOX saying that they back this show of unity by the players because they are standing up for free speech...”
Then F*** Fox too. I can turn off that station as easily as anything else.
Donald Trump is a genius...
In the real word, if you engage in an unauthorized political protest on your employer’s time, dime and property, you get a pink slip.
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequnces. Which is what the NFL and its players are finding out the hard way.
Villaneuva who plays for the Steelers, was an Army Ranger I think. A few weeks back Harrison was against kneeling during the National Anthem. There are some Patriots on the Steelers. Rooney the owner is a big time Democrat.
The NFL, NFLPA, and league's corporate sponsors and broadcast partners are scared that Trump just gave the green light for a truly massive boycott of the league. What will the league say when TV viewership is down 30% and stadium attendance is down 25% or more? At that point, the league is facing several BILLION in financial losses and heads are going to roll--starting with Roger Goodell and his lieutenants in the NFL league office.
Isn’t Rush a big Steelers fan?
Boo the hell out of them when they come out.
Packers the same.
A “star player” is a player that draws a crowd. Anyone taking a knee is not a “star” player since he is drawing paying customers away from the game.
Then just stay in the locker room. In fact just stay in Pittsburgh.
Free speech won’t save us. The left is vast and united and they control the media. The only thing these people will ever understand is money.
“stomping” made me wonder why they are penalized for dancing and spiking the ball but not for disrespecting the people who give them the freedom to play a game. I wonder how many in the military have stopped watching. I bought my son an eagles jersey and will be returning it this week. He’s a former Marine.
So the entire Steeler organization takes a knee! So sick of blacks and others with their faux racist crap! They are anti American communists!
