Former FBI Director James Comey’s keynote speech at Howard University was interrupted by protesters singing “We Shall Not Be Moved.”
Comey was set to speak at Howard’s 2017-18 convocation as the school’s endowed chair of public policy, but he didn’t receive a warm welcome from some students at the historically black college.
A group of students in the back of the auditorium stood up during Comey’s speech with their fists raised to indicate “black power.” The group sang the old spiritual song, “We Shall Not Be Moved” and broke out into chants about being black.
“I said I love being black!” one protester yelled, cuing the other protesters to repeat it back. “I love the color of my skin!”

Other students responded by chanting, “Let him speak!” After standing patiently for some time, Comey finally said, “I hope you’ll listen to what I have to say. I listened to you for five minutes.”
CNN reports some protesters chanted, “get out James Comey, you are not our homie.”

I doubt if any of them could really explain why they were “protesting”.
They can see that he’s white. That’s reason enough for them.
That was my next guess.

I’m looking forward to the next rally at a Historically White College where the students all raise fists and chant “I love my white skin. I love being white.”
Not exactly a comeback for James Comey. This has descended into sheer visceral hatred, for “Whitey” in any form.
Probably half the people chanting could not even identify what James Comey has been up to in the past year or so, or how it may or may not have related to themselves. They just sort of get sucked up in the moment.
Low information abounds, at every hand.
Its unlikely most of them even knew who he was.

This is the same school where idiots in 1987 shouted down Paul Simon for “stealing” black music from South Africans (who for the first time in their lives saw what freedom looked like when they toured this racist oppressive country with Simon on the Graceland tour).
I saw the video on local DC news at the time, but can’t find any record of it on youtube, as it’s not a flattering portrait of the student body.
Their favorite subject is victimology.
