Reading them in order would likely be best.
Red Storm Rising however, which is the one referred to above is quite distinct from the other books which have a character development feature.
Red Storm is different in many ways and could be read separate from the ‘Jack Ryan’ books.
I loved Red Storm because it involved a scenario where the USSR invaded Europe and the NATO war plans were essentially assessed. I actually visited so many of the actual sites mentioned in the book that it felt almost eerie to me.
I read that one when it was new. Maybe time to pick it up again.
Red Storm Rising is my favorite and Larry Bond helped by writing the land war parts, if I’m not mistaken.
