Sharyl Attkisson explains what we are up against : Intelligence Agencies Politically Weaponized

This is easily the read of the day.  Sharyl Attkisson is the bravest reporter of her generation, so much of a threat to people with access to the capabilities of our intel agencies that she was spied upon and worse.  Today she faces the ugly truth about what recent reports (if true) reveal:

Nobody wants our intel agencies to be used like the Stasi in East Germany; the secret police spying on its own citizens for political purposes. The prospect of our own NSA, CIA and FBI becoming politically weaponized has been shrouded by untruths, accusations and justifications.

She goes on to review a number of instances of us being lied to about spying, about spying on journalists, and then gets to her personal experience in fighting back against an actual hack she experienced while at CBS News:

I have spent more than two years litigating against the Department of Justice for the computer intrusions. Forensics have revealed dates, times and methods of some of the illegal activities. The software used was proprietary to a federal intel agency. The intruders deployed a keystroke monitoring program, accessed the CBS News corporate computer system, listened in on my conversations by activating the computer's microphone and used Skype to exfiltrate files.

We survived the government's latest attempt to dismiss my lawsuit. There's another hearing Friday. To date, the Trump Department of Justice – like the Obama Department of Justice – is fighting me in court and working to keep hidden the identities of those who accessed a government internet protocol address found in my computers.

Sharyl is fighting back, and is not shying away from what she sees, though she wisely avoids terms like "Deep State" and "establishment."  She is reporting:

For centuries *countries* would field armies.

Then something changed:

We saw THOUSANDS of trucks, THOUSANDS of fighters. With EVERYTHING. Every day we’d hear the stories of this weird, new, non-state ARMY kicking the cr*p out of the new Iraqi army.

ORGANIZATIONS beating countries; the rise of the non-state actor.

It made sense that private COMPANIES might provide the most effective answer to that; Triple Canopy, Blackwater, Executive Outcomes and over a hundred others.

And in time...?

We see domestically that we have the rise of the **non-state GOVERNMENT**:

A group of people unseen, who apparently govern from the shadows, immune from the effects of elaborate elections.

A big country that is FARMED by a smaller, parasitic one, that sucks our information and income.

Democrats never paused to consider they could be handing a weaponized executive branch over to Republicans in 2016. Or the realized it and figured the GOP is too self-throttling to take advantage of it. They were probably right.

There are two things that are most disturbing.

First, that this happened at all.

Second, that this obvious lawlessness and lack of ethics or reason with respect to following our Constitution did not result in wide-spread dissent.

We have no choice but to dismantle the CIA, FBI, and NSA.

This starts with allowing every American to inspect the records they have on us.

We need to prosecute not just the past leadership of these organizations, we need
To prosecute the employees who participated in lawlessness.

We don’t have a choice now. Reform is not possible.

We need to consider what replaces them

It’s inevitable - I don’t care how many “safeguards” you build in, once you create and empower such organizations, sooner than later powerful people will use them to safeguard their powers and destroy their enemies.
