Trump, White House go all-out for Graham-Cassidy Obamacare repeal bill
CNN ^ | 09/20/2017 | Kaitlan Collins

President Donald Trump would sign the Graham-Cassidy bill if the legislation to repeal Obamacare makes it to his desk, an administration official told CNN Tuesday, as the White House launched a full-court press on Capitol Hill.

The White House has been working with Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana for weeks on the new effort. A second source added that Trump himself had quietly encouraged the two senators to take another shot at health care.

Vice President Mike Pence and other administration officials are on Capitol Hill Tuesday to lobby Republican senators on the bill, which faces a September 30 deadline to pass the Senate with a simple majority. Republicans can only lose two senators or the effort will fail.

Once again, the key votes are Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins, Rand Paul and John McCain, who have been surrounded by reporters in the Capitol for the past two days.

The President has made calls to senators in recent days in an effort to urge them to move forward with health care one more time. In these calls, Trump has warned Republican lawmakers that this could be their last chance to follow through on a seven-year promise to repeal President Barack Obama's signature domestic achievement.

I understand Rand Paul’s opposition to this new “repeal-and-replace” effort - he has always been in favor of pure “repeal” with no “replace”. But Trump has always been up-front about being in favor of “repeal-and-replace” - his position on this hasn’t changed, and it’s consistent for him to back this piece of legislation. Once an entitlement is in place in the US, it’s not possible to retract it - that’s why we now have the biggest debt of any nation or other entity in the planet’s history.

It’s called incrementalism - it’s the best we can do right now.

I understand Paul’s objection. I myself opposed the previous attempts as too lightweight (what’s so damn hard about REPEAL?)...But at this point, Trump needs a big name legislative win. I’ll settle. At least for now.

It’s not a repeal bill!

#FAKENEWS

It is an Obamacare fixing bill.

An there the dream dies.

A few months later and all they did was lose another vote. What a waste of time

So let me get this straight.

Obamacare is built on a lie, a hoax - Grubered.

And yet the republicans want to fix it?? I don’t get it.

It is now coming to mainstream that globull warming is built on a lie, a hoax. So will the Republicans want to fix that also?

Not true. Paul benefits from people's short memories.

In JANUARY, Paul was the one who made a big deal about pushing Trump NOT to repeal unless Trump had something to replace it with the SAME DAY.

January 6: I just spoke to @realDonaldTrump and he fully supports my plan to replace Obamacare the same day we repeal it. The time to act is now.

Paul has been all over the board, but consistently been the one guy to be a stick in the mud to put the brakes on WHATEVER the plan happened to be that day.

political reality time..Paul needs to stop acting like a prima donna know it all....if this was the first year of Obama care..then fine, repeal it totally,,,but this is 7 years in now. To me, at least get rid of the mandates..that’s the key. Then, later on, chip away at it. The Dems know that once those mandates that you have to buy insurance is gone, they will never get it again. Gotta be smart about this..

I think that this one needs to die. I agree that it's still obamacare. I'm with Rand. Kill this turkey dead.

right now, i’m reading it. and surprise, so far it looks like “meet the new gope boss, same as the old gope boss.” in otherwords, ryancare again.

oh well, what do you expect from a failed gope politician turned healthcare “doctor” and a failed doctor turned gope politician.

the fact that Trump is all for it again is not surprising. afterall he was gung ho for ryancare too.

This is just an effort by Grahamnesty to save the democrats from continuing electoral debacles by taking the weight of the Obamacare fail off their necks- without actually repealing the gravy train that is obamacare for the sleazebags

It also saves the RINO's and they can run around claiming that they fulfilled their campaign promise and repealed obamacare.

It Lindsey's boyfriend McManiac from the stigma of the one vote that prevented obamacare from being repealed.

It also helps Trump to run around claiming that he fulfilled his campaign promise of repealing obamacare.

The whole cabal wins- except the people who have to deal with the obamacare problems. They will end up being resigned to its failures.

Paul is right—and to hear Trump defend it like he pushed the original House bill earlier this year, is nauseating.

This turd is NOT a repeal of Obamacare. It keeps all the taxes and shifts the $1 trillion spending from the federal to the state budgets.
