With most Republicans backing the Graham/Cassidy healthcare bill, there is at least one Republican senator who's still vocal in his opposition. His name?
Senator Rand Paul.
Unlike his colleagues, who don't take their promises to American voters seriously, Senator Paul continues to call for the complete and total repeal of ObamaCare, the horrendous health care bill pushed through Congress by former President Obama and his Democratic allies.
I was thinking this all sounds familiar...amnesty?#GrahamCassidyِ: Amnesty for Obamacare.
Senator Rand Paul (@RandPaul) September 19, 2017
"No one wants to repeal ObamaCare more than I do," the senator from Kentucky writes at FoxNews.com. "As a career physician, there are few in Congress who have as much firsthand experience on all sides of the health care debate as I do. Ive voted for repeal. Ive sponsored my own Repeal and Replace plans."
However, he goes on: "Ive also led the fight to stop and block ObamaCare Lite' plans offered in both houses of Congress this year. These have been plans that have spent nearly as much money as ObamaCare, that left most of the taxes and regulations in place, and basically failed to honor our promise of repeal."

Because people who haven’t labored over the sick, given up sleep, shared grief, raged against the system, given charity care to the destitute know so much more about healthcare that those who have. Take your cheap cynicism and grandiose unworkable ideals and take a long walk off a short pier.
LOL! He's pulling a McCain and ensuring nothing gets done because he don't like some of it - and helping ensure that the Senate remains a do-nothing body. Goes to show that some folks call it "principle" when they endorse a singleton for gumming up the works - but only when they approve of the gum job.
Rand is pretty much the poster boy of the “Party of No” GOP caricature the Dems love to use. He’s never advanced the conservative agenda in substantive way but that won’t stop him from another virtuoso beltway theater performance.
‘Not for Rand. As a Sentaor he is exempt from Obamacare and free to bloviate to his hearts content.’
This is perhaps the best point on the thread. Rand Paul has the luxury to virtue posture and kill the last chance of repealing Obamacare because it doesn’t apply to him or his family. He’s sitting pretty. He could care less that it’s crushing and destroying the people he’s supposed to represent. He’s exempt, so he can morally preen to his heart’s content.
Disgusting.
Agree - Rand would love to have enough Repubs trust him so he can be the wrench in the works for some important agenda items.
Any authority and the very existence of Congress is derived form the Constitution. Rand Paul is one of the very few Senators who actually uses the Constitution as a basis for his actions. That is what sets Paul apart, including dealing with the utterly unconstitutional Obamacare, from the rest of the senatorial pack.
I think Paul is bonkers. The choice is not between Graham-Cassidy and a full repeal. The choice is between Graham-Cassidy and Obamacare forever. That is just a fact. If Graham-Cassidy passes, there would still be a chance to repeal or phase it out, etc. If Graham-Cassidy fails we’re stuck with Obamacare forever. (And no, it will never implode. The same Uniparty that can’t repeal it will prop it up indefinitely. Thanks, Paul...for nothing.)
Who says? That's like saying our only choice is between the Leftist Light corrupt GOP and the Marxist DNC. That is surrender-to-the-Left talk.
I stand with Rand. This is just another failure to repeal Obamacare.
Would you do me a huge favor? Would you go to your favorite search engine and type in the following string:
‘Deadline repealing Obamacare September 30’
That should give you a whole new perspective. Thank you in advance.

Wrong. The GOP doing nothing but gum flapping until the Dems get control again and then ram through single payer is “surrender.” The GOP has control now. It owns the failing health care system and must act. Or the Dems will later. It’s that simple.

Would you do me a favor? Would you go to the Constitution and find where the Constitution delegates healthcare interference like Obamacare to the feds?
F/k their stupid “deadline”. The whole thing is illegal and unconstitutional regardless of any phony deadline.
Quit letting the Left run you around by the nose.
You kinda support my point. The GOP is in power and show themselves to be Leftist Light.
My point is we don’t have to accept that.
THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!
You and Paul would stick us with Obamacare forever and be proud of it. That will be the very real and practical outcome of Paul’s virtue preening—which you fully support.
I never said that.
I support Paul’s adherence to the Constitution unlike most of the other nitwits in the Senate.
Paul standing alone says something but doesn’t often seem to be effective. He has trouble getting consensual support. That’s a problem.
As far as being stuck with Obamacare forever that is b/s from those who have given up! Obamacare is patently unconstitutional and no phony freaking “deadline” makes it any more legal. Obamacare can and should be repealed anytime, anywhere.
I see. Obamacare wasn’t repealed while it was easy to do, and while the GOP controlled congress and the WH. But it will be repealed after it becomes much more difficult to repeal...because you say it should be.
Smh.
Amen
In our government, every conceivable problem, and plenty of imaginary ones, are constantly in season because every problem, every crisis, every inequity and iniquity is yet another excuse or pretense to usurp power.
He just does he job. He says he's not voting for the Emperor's new clothes and then he says why. Since the Dems and Repubs are so alike, they outnumber him by somewhere between 95 and 99 to 1. They'll probably achieve their ultimate goal of communist socialized medicine ahead of schedule.
