On one level, the saga of Madame Giselle is a story about, in no particular order, allegations by two neighbors who say they were swindled in an elaborate scheme to sell T-shirts to the Venezuelan army, a cash-stuffed envelope slipped under a doorway, a legendary bygone scandal involving the Colombian military and a glamorous woman known as “The Blonde,” an ongoing multimillion-dollar Colombian fraud case, and a supposed helicopter ride into Syria. But on another level, as illustrated in interviews and in hundreds of text messages obtained by The Washington Post, it’s a story about friendship and trust, about what we can make ourselves believe and how we can sometimes suspend disbelief when dreams are in sight.

Interesting story of a con artist operating in DC, Florida, Bogota, and other countries. She pretended to know Trumps, although there seems to be no actual connection at all. It simply indicates how brazen and shameless a confident con artist can be...... this could be a movie plot, except that the known outcomes are a little bit small potatoes (her recent scams seem to be in the tens of thousands rather than millions of dollars, though there is evidence that she has scammed many millions over a long period of time).

There are some World Class Liars out there. They are very good actors for specified audiences in specified settings.
The elderly and the desperate have to be careful who they chose to guide them in financial or retirement planning.
If you know you are a soft touch for a shed tear or a tragic sob story, have s second party there with you who is not so easy to manipulate. Many is the man who wanted to rescue a Damsel in distress and got taken for a ride instead.

I don’t think anything in the article hints at the slightest real problem for the Trumps. It is merely an entertaining case of an experienced con artist, fabricating her supposed “connections” to try to give her tales credibility.

Sounds like a similar milieu. SHe got her start scamming military officers in Colombia. Seems like all military ppl need to be extra wary and savvy about such types. Especially anyone involved in procurement, or anything extra sensitive in intel terms.
