Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL), despite his presentation as an immigration hawk, has a substantial stake in a firm that facilitates visas for rich, mostly Chinese, investors and their families. According to February disclosure filings reported in Alabama Today, Strange held a one-sixth ownership of an Alabama-based EB-5 Visa fixer called Sunbelt EB-5 Regional Center.
According to Sunbelts FAQ page:
Sunbelt, the firm which Strange partially owns, makes its money by soliciting foreigners to invest in projects in the American southeast and helping to then secure visas for those investors and their families.

Kushner’s family of course is big into this too—to make their real estate projects work.
He’s a lobbyist who is McConnell’s man. Tells you all you need to know.
In some states he might be the best we could hope for, but this is Alabama, which should be electing a real conservative like Roy Moore—who of course is on the ballot.
Moore for the Senate! Strange for ex-Senator.
The same Feinstein that supports Mexicans coming here taking American jobs, not paying taxes or if they do claiming 12 kids for credit? Oh I value her opinion...not.
Thank you.
Most of those on this thread have no idea what they're talking about re: EB-5, and their ignorance shows.
It's an excellent program that was a HUGE boon to areas where values were destroyed. It also brings in the exact types of immigrants Americans should want - productive people who spend money and hire Americans.
Why?
Rhetorical question, because most people who say that either don't know what they are talking about or are politically motivated.
Actually I am very familiar with the EB-5 program. I’m also aware of the false narrative that its largely Chinese.
Since you seem to love pointing out the people who don’t know what they are talking about I’ll enlighten you.
My husband was approached by some Chinese who wanted to use the EB-5 program to buy one of his patent designs and build a prototype. We decided against it. Our personal choice.
All over rural America small hospitals are popping up. Then soon after a mosque appears. Muslims are utilizing the EB-5 program to insinuate themselves into rural communities like the small mountain town in N GA we plan to retire to. Even though the community did not want or need the hospital it was forced on them. No one could find out the identity of the investors because it was being built without financing. Soon after these small hospitals are built they cannot even maintain minimal standards and then petition the county to take over administration. Meanwhile every investor has gotten 9-10 green cards for their whole famdamily.
So yeh I really hate that program.
As far as the immigrants we want coming to the US why would you want any? We have 324 million people in the US. We don’t need even one more immigrant.
Except that’s not his wife. His wife is much older.
That’s his friend and sometimes consultant/campaign manager Jennifer.
Building permits and business perhaps don't work like that. Georgia doesn't allow anonymous applications.
OK, so...does someone who has actually worked on an EB-5 program want to join in, or is this thread just for internet pretenders who are willing to slander anyone and anything if it furthers their goal?
I was involved with people trying to ferret out who the investors in the hospital were. To this day a year later as far as I know nobody has been able to find out. Its the strangest thing I have ever seen. City and county officials would not divulge any info.
Then there's this:
As far as the immigrants we want coming to the US why would you want any?
M'am, that goes right to the point our opponents make; that some of us just don't want ANYONE else here.
Yeh we don’t really need any new immigrants. The US is a sovereign nation. We are under no compunction to let anybody immigrate here. Everybody else in the world does not have a right to move to the US just because they want to.
Why are we letting a bunch of foreigners bring investment money here instead of letting US investors repatriate the $2 trillion in offshore cash that is out there?
If we never let another immigrant into this country there would be no downside to it. All of these visa programs need to go.
No, you're calling for shutting off *legal* immigration. That's not Conservatives. That's not Free Republic.
That's not the Statue of Liberty.
That's Storm Front, or worse.
You're on the wrong web site.
Free Republic is against ***ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION***, which should never be confused with "legal" immigration.
You need to be banned. You are an agitator and troll.
No I reflect the views of millions of Americans. The US has cut off immigration in the past. Between 1935 and 1950 very few people were allowed to immigrate to the US.
95% of those people were from Europe.
In 1965 even though a Harris poll showed that Americans by 2 to 1 were opposed to increasing immigration managed to jam through an immigration bill that has radically changed our country. Since 1965 95% of new immigrants are from Asia or Latin America.
We are letting in 1 million people per year into this country who may or may not hold the ideals of the founding fathers and the Constitution. Most of the countries in Latin America are socialist or communist as are Asian countries. So how do you think these new comers will vote?
At 1 million per year in 10 short years that’s 10 million new people to try to absorb from non European cultures.
Do you think we ever took 10 million from Ireland, Italy, Germany, Hungary, France, UK? Not even close but we have 11-20 million illegals mostly from one country, Mexico. It has to stop.
I believe you are confused about the responsibility a sovereign country has with regard to immigration. The citizenry of the United states have every right to maintain their national identity.
You are the one who is out of sync with the current will of the American population not me.
You "reflect the views" of a ridiculous minority of shut-in nativist imbeciles.
Thanks for the conversation.
It would be helpful if you could acquire a GED so you could add something cogent to the conversation. Good luck with that. LOL!
