Good heavens, 408 is an incredible picture. You wouldn’t want looking out the window and seeing that to be your first indication that you were about to get clobbered.
St Thomas is well outside the destructive winds of Maria (as are all the other islands hit by Irma. The destructive winds extend about 40 miles from the center of Maria. Hard to tell exactly with the concentric eyewalls, but the winds in the inner eye wall are about 5-10 miles wide.

Mayor of San Juan said today that the people needed to be looking at no electricity for 4 months since the infrastructure was very weakened ‘before’ Irma...now they’re facing Maria as well....
Interesting she said that ‘what’s NEW’ is the communication lines are open with the US Gov. and she feels like someone is on the other end listening to them...
