St Thomas is well outside the destructive winds of Maria (as are all the other islands hit by Irma. The destructive winds extend about 40 miles from the center of Maria. Hard to tell exactly with the concentric eyewalls, but the winds in the inner eye wall are about 5-10 miles wide.

Hurricane Sandy and Wilma came in late October.....so we could even see more Hurricanes as these before out of the season....

The 68 knot winds (75 mph) extend to the NE by 50 nautical miles (57 Statute Miles approx.)
