This has always driven me nuts. In what other posuction does the spouse of a deceased person, other than Congress, take over the deceased person’s position. Does it happen in any other profession, say accountant, engineer, lawyer, truck driver? If anything, there should be a law/rule against this practice.

That’s a valid viewpoint.

I believe that it is thought the spouse knows the person better than anyone else, and would continue to implement their world view.

I don’t necessarily object to your take on it.
