speaking of ships colliding, another one - tanker and something else, hit each other off Singapore yesterday, near where the navy ship was hit. What’s up with Singapore?

First time I’ve read anything about a steering failure.

External “hacking” is crazy.
Inside job, plausible.

As part of the investigation into McCain’s collision, a team from the Navy’s U.S. 10th Fleet cyber arm traveled to Singapore to see if a reported steering failure of the destroyer was a result of cyber tampering, USNI News reported last month.

Steering failure? Is that going to be the excuse? I guess the sailors on deck never considered the possibility of reversing propeller rotation to slow and, eventually stop, the ship — hopefully before a collision.

The Chinese or whoever just need to get one traitor to insert a toxic flash drive into certain systems on board a Navy ship. If there are slots for flash drives on some of them.... I really do not know.

This is how we and Israelis inserted stuxnet into computers controlling Iran’s centrifuges.

The first step in fixing this problem would be to rename the ship.

"The effort, called Operation Orion’s Hammer, focused on the reported failure of the aft steering mechanism that early reports say helped cause the collision between McCain and a chemical tanker off the coast of Singapore on Aug. 21 resulting in the death of 10 sailors, several Navy officials have told USNI News."

First reputable report I've seen of an actual systems failure WRT the McCain collision.

It was my understanding that the aft steering is simple and robust -- and is what made it possible to bring Fitzgerald into harbor under her own power and control...

Is such failure a common -- or known -- hazard?

The Officer of the Bridge and other watches should have literally seen that massive tanker coming a mile away.

“Probing potential cyber tampering and cyber intrusion will now be a standard part of U.S. Navy accident investigation ...”

Assuming that there is time between social justice, alternate lifestyle, alternate sex, and sensitivity training, and assuming there is money remaining in the Navy budget to do actual military training ...
