Amazon has been monitoring and deleting reviews after Hillary Clinton's new book was greeted with a torrent of criticism on the day it was released.
What Happened, which covers the former Secretary of State's unsuccessful election campaign against Donald Trump, was published on Tuesday. Clinton and her publisher Simon & Schuster claimed the book would offer a candid account of her failure and her own reflection on it.
Reviews of What Happened have been mixed, with some suggesting it Clinton uses it as an opportunity to blame others such as Bernie Sanders and Vladimir Putin for her failure, rather than herself. In The New York Times, which supported Clinton's campaign, Jennifer Senior writes that the book is "a score-settling jubilee".
The readers on Amazon, meanwhile, are even more divided but not all of them have read the book. The online retail giant has a "verified purchase" option to signpost whether reviewers have bought a product, and none of the 42 reviewers leaving comments on Tuesday had done so.
Few of the one-star reviews remain on the website, but reports and screen grabs show that reviewers used the space to criticize the former First Lady and spread conspiracy theories about her and Bill Clinton.
One one-star review, which remains on the website at the time of writing, reads: "Read all the promotional excerpts, which combined come close to book length pretty good novel. It is fiction, isn't it? Surely, someone is playing a joke."
Amazon is rarely moved to delete reviews so publicly, although in November negative comments under a book by anti-Trump broadcaster Megyn Kelly appeared to be removed by the retailer.

You won’t find this reported in Bezos’ Amazon WASHINGTON POST.
i suspect they’ve mostly been deleting reviews from people who didn’t actually buy the book.
of the current 200 some odd 1-star reviews, only 2 purchased the book from amazon, which means it’s highly likely almost none of the other “reviewers” purchased it at all.
when I look at reviews on amazon, i automatically look at only verified purchasers. who knows what the motivations of the rest of the “reviewers” are or whether they actually used or bought the item they’re “reviewing” at all.
It could depend on the credentials of the reviewer. If the book is nonfiction and nonpolitical, you would expect reviews to come only from people who read the book and understood its arguments enough to make a cogent argument about it. A Mind at Play - a bio of Claude Shannon, electrical engineer/ mathematician, would not likely attract trolls, for example.
“i suspect theyve mostly been deleting reviews from people who didnt actually buy the book.”
Hence the article’s comment: “The online retail giant has a “verified purchase” option to signpost whether reviewers have bought a product, and none of the 42 reviewers leaving comments on Tuesday had done so.” I’m with only allowing reviews by people who actually purchased the product in question.
Frankly they should not allow user reviews except by verified purchasers. You can’t comment on the audio book unless you buy it first. The same should apply to kindle and hardcover books.
That being said, the one star reviews were very entertaining.
I hope the moron, idiot, buffoon, incompetent, low life, HIllary Clinton runs again....insanity runs deep inside the Democrat Party and the Republican Establishment RINOs. End of story!!!
The few five star reviews I read were Verified Purchases. All of the one-star reviews (the lowest you can tick and have your review published) I saw were not Verified Purchases. The negatives were over 400 then and outweighed the positives.
When I write a review, usually a Verified Purchase of mine but sometimes not, there is a delay like it is awaiting moderation, then I will be notified via email that it has gone online. Just one not too long ago, an edited update, didn't get published.
People flock to hot-button items and try to influence sales, like shills on comment boards, and I really don't blame Amazon to try to keep it fair and honest.
The only thing is people who know about the book and a lot that's in it, and would give it a negative, don't want to buy it and read it just to get their review a Verified Purchase.
I like to see her as much as possible. Makes Trump look good. Since the MSM stooges will never give Trump his due parading this viscous bitch is the next best thing.
I agree with Amazon. People aren’t reviewing the book, they’re expressing their opinion of Hillary. This might make the poster feel good, but it really adds no value as a product review in the same way some reviewer gives a product a one-star review because it came in the mail late.
I will say that Amazon has let any number of the wildly funny reviews stand, which similarly is not a real product review, so yeah, there is a little bit of inconsistency here.
Went to website. Doesn’t look to me like anybody read the book. It is either 5 star or 1 star and not much in between. 5 stars are leading 1 stars by 40%. That is 70/30 for those in Rio Linda..
Which raises the question: Does Amazon do this for conservative authors?

I think they do. Iirc, the removal of spam/politically motivated 1 and 2 star comments not linked to verified purchase was put in place *because* of complaints raised by non leftist authors.
Oh, the 5-star reviews from non-verified types is sales promotion...
Amazon removes T-shirts of the Confederate Flag yet they allow black lives matter t-shirts to be sold..Amazon is owned by a far left loon of course they don’t want anything negative on Saint Hillary
The “Verified Purchaser” reviews are phony.
The book was released on September 12th. Even those who pre-ordered the book didn’t receive it until 9/12 at the earliest. And wouldn’t you know, ALL the five-star “reviews” are mostly dated September 12th, with a few dated the 13th!
Thus, all those “Verified Purchasers” of Hillary’s book sat down IMMEDIATELY after receiving it, read it cover to cover and wrote their one-to-two line “reviews” praising Hillary and her book ON THE DAY IT WAS RELEASED??
Yeah, right...(sarcasm off)
Mebbe Hildabeast and Condosleeza have been viewing photos taken by the flashing red lights on urinals and sent to the world wide web, and viewing our peenies?
This shall not stand ...
Answer: There isn't a 0-star rating!!!
Bada-bing!
