Washington (CNN)Texas Sen. Ted Cruz told reporters Tuesday it was a "staffing issue" that led to a pornographic video being "liked" by his Twitter account -- which has since been removed.
"It was a staffing issue and it was inadvertent, it was a mistake, it was not a deliberate action," Cruz said, according to The Washington Post. He added: "We're dealing with it internally but it was a mistake, it was not malicious conduct."
An aide to Cruz confirmed the comments to CNN, adding that there would be an internal effort to figure out who was responsible.
Cruz declined to comment when asked by CNN about the incident.

It’s CNN why bother?
I have to admit; it’s a South Park reference.
Just about every politician, celebrity, athlete, etc. has an individual, or more commonly a team of folks to handle their social media account. It’s common practice.
Some intern with too much time on his (or her) hands.
My daughter is a congressional staffer. That particular staff handles all social media accounts.
It may be different with Sen. Cruz. He did some particularly savage trolling of Deadspin this year.
Riiight! Used to happen to me all the time.
I know I blamed my"staff" as well!
Good help is so hard to find.(HaHa!!).
Sorta like “the dog ate my homework.” Never worked for me!
Cruz would not “like” a porn site or video.
I’m probably one of this biggest detractors here, but this isn’t fair to anyone.
The Left would love nothing more than to out Cruz as a porn fan. It could then smear the whole “RIGHT” as straight laced people who are all frauds.
Not buying in on this. For the good of the “RIGHT”, I stand with Cruz on this.
I’m not going to play into to their long term game plan.
He wouldn’t like it on purpose but I could see him accidentally liking it very easily.
The thing is, after midnight, it wasn’t likely a staffer... it was more likely Ted Cruz.
It could easily be some kind of set-up or planned attack. I just looked for that Twitter account and can’t find it [[@Sexuallposts]]
There are other variants of that spelling but I can’t find that exact account. Has the account itself been deleted?? Well, whether or not the account has been removed, It could be some kind of spoofing attack operation.
I’m no fan of Cruz, but I am highly suspicious and doubtful that anyone associated with his staff and Twitter account would knowingly click “like” on a porn video, knowing that this information would be displayed with his feed.
I know it is simple on Twitter to change one’s account name at any time (I used to be on Twitter but deleted my account in disgust). The basic address of the account does not change (the “@” address) but one can make the title/account name out to be anything that is not already in use by another Twitter account. This line can be changed in a couple of seconds. I have done so in the past just when I felt like a new “screenname” on Twitter. You simply type in a new name in your account settings. Boom! It’s been changed. Thus, someone could easily “spoof” the account name as something innocent or politically appealing to the Cruz team. Some conservative sounding, maybe even pro-Cruz name.....
I don’t know whether the link to the video itself could have been substituted or modified, but that is something to look at. I know that you can edit tweets after you make them. So possibly someone did a spoof account name in a tweet with a politically “conservative” message, then changed the tweet after the fact (after the Cruz team “liked” it) by substituting a new link in said tweet.
I’m not saying this is what happened for sure, I don’t know, but this kind of thing needs to be looked at.

Trump must come out and condemn cruz for being a pervert.
Yes, where is this video so we can decide guilty or not guilty? I demand to see this video!
Yes, these folks have no problem with destroying others, if they can do it with information that simply isn’t true.
They are the graduates of Moral Relativism U.
A lot of public officials have staffers who post for them. They’re supposed to be posting policy statements and liking other members’ ideas and things like that.
Perhaps. We have to remember that some of these staffers don’t show up to an office. They probably do work from their living room. As such, they can put in efforts at any hour they like. Some of them are night owls. It’s not uncommon for free lancers like this.
Just tossing this out there. I do agree with your premise. Mistakes can happen. Not sure here.
Wow, they made a ninth one?
Better put a link up.
CNN. Ha hahahah. Yea right!
correction/update, well that account is still there, I don’t know why I didn’t find it when searching earlier. But it is an account since 2014 and has 612K followers, so it has been active there for quite a while. I don’t know that the temporary spoof name hypothesis makes much sense, now.
It still could be some kind of set-up and attack, but not in the way I outlined before, I don’t think. Someone would have to have access to his password/account, I would think.
