I'm down in south Georgia (Coffee County - blue dot on map). It is sporadically windy with some rain. Irma has been downgraded to Cat 1 and I am hoping it will weaken still more before arriving nearby.
To: wyowolf
Yep. We will get a lot of rain. Winds will be picking up later this afternoon.

Not that any of this is a laughing matter, but I read a couple of stories in the
Americus Times-Recorder, that together are somewhat amusing:
1. The State of Georgia is releasing EBT SNAP(food stamps)funds early, so people who use them can stock up on needs.
2.The Walmart in Americus closed at 4 PM Sunday, and won't open again until Tuesday.

From Mobile yesterday, near the USS Alabama. Water sucked out of Mobile Bay.

I was in a small lagoon on the Chesapeake Bay yesterday. One of the guys working there told me that the water levels have been very low on the Bay the last few days. I wonder if it’s related to the hurricanes sucking up water into the clouds to dump on land.

We have hurricanes, flooding, wildfires, earthquakes and a tiger loose on I-75. Which one of you is playing Jumanji ?!
To: cyclotic
Well, that's got nothing to do with any hurricanes. It's obviously a sign of global warming.
All the ocean water is evaporating up into the atmosphere.
See?

They better hurry up and reprint all the science books to remove those pesky Water Cycle chapters then.

Central Southeast Alabama:
Well, my kids’ school cancelled for today and tomorrow...
I had a teaching job this week for a state agency in Montgomery, but the state offices are closed today, so class is canceled this week.
Nothing much to do until the weather gets better.
I think they over-reacted a bit here in Alabama... At least in the Montgomery-Auburn area. Not that I want anyone to be harmed by a hurricane—but it was never projected to be a hurricane here.
