The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

Thanks for the link. Unbelievable, isn’t it?

I hadn’t even thought of agriculture there, and you caused me to look it up; lots of small farmers:

But the earth is actually flat, isn’t it? :)
Please prove the spinning globe model. I’m not yet convinced either way yet.

I saw the crescent things in the early 90’s and found it very curious, but there was no internet then.

Last I checked there were 30 mph winds forecast with a fair amount of rain, but just overcast thus far.

Same here...I thought you folks on the 'other side of the mountains' would be getting slammed, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have several dozen hot pepper plants in containers that I was going to move into the garage for the night, but I don't see any reason to do so. I was hoping they would get SOME rain...geez. Thirteen-foot tall corn plants aren't even twitching.

Sorry if this is a double post.
Nonetheless, here’s another for inquiring minds:

Great to hear you and yours are all fine! Sorry about the royal palm (those are so pretty!) and yard debris. I know with your amazing gardening skills, your yard will look wonderful again. :-)

Hope you get your power back very soon. Overall I've been impressed with what I hear of Florida Power and Light. Some friends and family members on both the east and west coasts of FL never lost power - that's incredible to me.

As I've said before, an acorn could bump off a power line in our area of Connecticut, and we're out for hours, if not days, LOL.

The rain came here with nightfall but I don’t hear any wind. Most of the getting nailed is coastal Carolina, and south at that, although I’m sure the surf’s pretty rough all the way up, I checked Surfline last night for Hatteras and they showed a forecast of 10” at the lighthouse.

I'm very happy to report that Georgia FReeper LonePalm (in Saint Marys) contacted me about an hour ago: He and his wife "SweetiePalm" are fine, but have no power as I type this. He was upbeat and expects the power to return fairly soon, but there's no estimated time given as to when it would be back on.

LonePalm had some flooding in his neighborhood... he said a little bit of water entered his garage, but there is NO water in his house, thank goodness.

The lovely waterfront of St. Marys did unfortunately suffer a bit more flooding and some damage, per this article:

In St. Marys, GA, Irma sinks boats and docks, sending Styrofoam into roads

Looking forward to seeing LonePalm on FR again very soon, especially on the daily Rush threads! :-)

I remember driving up to a boat show in Annapolis from Florida after Hugo and all along the Interstate (at least 100 miles inland) it looked like some giant had taken his hand and chopped off the upper half of ALL the trees along the roadway. It was surreal.

A little shower passing thru, and wind out of the east between 1.3 and 7 mph (although I can’t see any leaves moving at all)...all indications are that my plants will be just fine when I check them at 5 a.m.

YOU ARE in excellent shape to weather what’s left of the hurricane.

I rather envy you that rain. In my town, we’ve had the worst air in the country for days due to forest fires. Gasp. Hotter than usual, dry, and nary a raindrop in the “lovely” Pacific Northwest. I run electric air filters in my apartment 24/7.

Traveled through Tennessee many times, felt it would be a particularly wonderful place to live. Kentucky too.

Stay safe, this storm and its aftermath can’t last.

God bless.

On our local TV News this evening, their meteorologist showed comparative night pictures from space, of roughly the south half of FL. One was I assume weeks or months ago, the other early this a.m. Except maybe for Miami, it looked like freaking South Korea, or Japan, vs. North Korea, I tried to find the pics online but so far have not. The story is not on our station’s website. Can anyone find & post the pics?
