The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

I’m convinced that it has been the frequent, fervent prayers of the many righteous Freepers that this terrifying storm was not WORSE for many people it was expected to devastate. PTL! I will gladly take a storm that is milder than predicted than one which turns out worse than feared.
Prayers for dear NautiNurse...for safety and protection.
It’s funny but it’s not.
Get Zello. It’s free and you can create a channel for your family.
If you lose wi-fi and cell data it won’t work though.
Checking in. Hunkered down (family so tired of this cliche) 5 miles west of downtown Orlando. Power out for 2.5 hours now. But I even had cable / dish until then! It normally goes out during a light rain.
Anywho, drinks are still cold, freeping away.
Amen to that!
Awesome to hear from you. Keep us posted on Orlando.
A longer wire up to a foot long will catch a better signal. These digital stations occupy the old UHF band.
Thanks! I bought my husband a key kit from AARL for Christmas, but he hasn’t built it yet.
It’s sad that there don’t seem to be many young people getting into radio. There’s so much to learn and, it builds confidence along with the different skills.
Thanks!
“If you lose wi-fi and cell data it wont work though.”
That’s not a reason to get it then. If I have cell I can call/txt, I can also call/txt to my fam with wi-fi.
You gotta train your family how to get by in the times you can’t communicate.
Saying prayers for you, dear SE Mom. Please check in when you can.
Well the Lord can show mercy in the face of otherwise destructive storms.
Godspeed.
I have a sister in Sanford. A couple hours ago she said the power was “blinking” and thought they would lose it soon. I haven’t heard any thing since.
Cool, as long as the car isn't up to it's roof in water, that's great. Btw, many times during big disasters, thousands find they gotta leave their cars for a multitude of reasons, quickly. Even in evacuations, people have had to abandon their vehicles.
Btw, some new model cars have phone chargers built in.
Prayers up for NautiNurse and any other FReepers “missing from the Internet” right now. Hope it’s just conserving power and they are all ok!
God has Irma mostly roiling the Gulf waters so far. She wasn’t so kind to Cuba though.
I’ve been watching the radar loops and is it me or does this storm look like it’s going to exit the state near Jacksonville?
