The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

You are so right, the wind is pushing the ocean to us...
We’re winding down. The am will reveal the extent of damage. Still howling in st lucie. Not a huge amount of rain but transformers blowing all around.
The South Florida Hurricane Irma channel is good to.
Remember, on the topic of radios/communications/cell and so on.
1 is none
2 is one
3 is 2...
This is true for all preps.
Blessed for sure! It could’ve been so much worse. Glad for you.
Shrimp Smith should just take the plunge and become the first Transgender Newscaster Star of FoxNews.
C’mon Shep, cut ‘em off, you know you want to!!! Make TV history......
Brevard County update: We seem to be one of the few still with electricity. However Spectrum cable just quit. Lot of wind, lot of rain, lot of tornado warnings.
I second that de K1QKZ
Yep - Zello was a success this year because, for the most part the power and cellular network remained active. It's an added layer of communications that emergency responders need to be aware of and know how to utilize, but there's a reason why the National Interagency Fire Center / National Interagency Coordination Center maintains the largest civilian radio cache on the planet.
See below for NautiNurse’s posts about conditions at her present location. In the last 24-48 hrs, she has been through a bucket-load and is no doubt weary.
With Irma, she is directly affected.
All who benefit from her hurricane threads...and lurkers too...take a moment to hold her up in prayer...NautiNurse, her property, and all her loved ones who are impacted by Irma.
NautiNurse, we appreciate you and are praying for you and yours. Please keep us informed about how Irma is affecting you til you are out of harms way.

“Directly in Irmas path. Big squall band coming through now. Hoping the electricity holds up.”
Like electricity, it goes way back further than that and goes on as I type.
Most folks capable of critical thought would fork over the $150 for the most reliable connection/communication to the outside world possible.**Especially those who live in earthquake/hurricane zones**.
Btw, everyone has a smart phone...I have one and probably 3 others thrown in a drawer somewhere. But I can assure you, I do not look at those devices as reliable communication in a pending disaster.
Most of them would probably have marine radios they could use to coordinate as well.
Listening to WFLA via iHeart Radio. They just said a third construction crane has collapsed, this one in Ft. Lauderdale.
You Rock. Plain and Simple. You Just Rock.
Prayers send for NautiNurse.
I’m about 15 miles N of Tampa. Lost power about 8:30. Somewhat loud wind and rain but nothing very concerning yet. Hoping it stays that way for the next 6-8 hours.
I live in western NC and was hit severely by Ivan. Had help from FEMA.
I agree with post #24. Good advice.
