The entire Florida Peninsula has begun to experience Hurricane Irma following landfall at Marco Island. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Prayers for all in the storm path.

Maybe. But for the most part, the smartphones did just fine in the recent hurricanes. Thousands of hot spots remained available in even the hardest hit areas. There are apps already available to get just about any radio station you want. And if you lost power, you can easily re-charge the phones in your car. That’s what I did when I lost power for a few days in an ice storm a few years back. The Trump Administration even put out a FEMA app for storm victims to quickly get assistance. It will only get better from here.
All the Hemmingway cats are fine. All the staff are fine. The house is fine.

The baby birds on Channel 12 in West Palm Beach are safe, they even brought them into the studio.
That’s good. Just don’t put the cats and the birds together.
Tropical Storm Harvey takes out 911 centers, cell towers, and cable networks
148,000 Internet, TV, and phone customers lost service in storm’s wake. Tropical Storm Harvey has disrupted at least 17 emergency call centers and 320 cellular sites, and it has caused outages for more than 148,000 Internet, TV, and phone customers.

I rest my case.
Oh a lot of people were excited to see devastation but the media makes money off of it because of ratings. Oh well too bad.
I know that guy! What luck for him!
Adding my thanks for the work you have done here.
Signing off for the night. Power is out, running on UPS ‘til that’s gone.
Back whenever. Best of luck to all affected FReepers for the duration of Irma.
Tornadoes scare me almost as much as hurricane. They’re so random where they hit and will flatten a house in one minute.
I agree South Florida Zello is great if you want to hear 70-90% “yutes” and associated profanity.
I’ll bet there’s very little of that on 2M band or whatever you’re using.
The way I read it the guy said it straight up and it fit his moniker of cranky weather man.

Thanks for the new thread! Winds are picking up pretty good here in Lakeland. Looks like we might be in the eye of the storm, now. Still have power! (Knock wood)
Save some UPS for emergencies. Sleep safe.
Only a 1=3 foot surge in sarasota predicted and that’s an hour south of tampa. I had to go to CNN via you tube too very any local coverage.
Multi-band receivers are nice to have but they are more of a 1970s thing. My sons laughed when I used to pull out my Grundig. Younger people today aren't going to be buying a multi-band radio receiver! Just isn't going to happen.
