On August 16, author, pundit, and radio personality Dennis Prager who also happens to be an amateur conductor led the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Franz Joseph Haydns Symphony No. 51 in B-flat major before a sold-out house, amidst the unique architecture and near-flawless acoustics of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Prager, a lifelong classical-music devotee, has, through his guest-conducting efforts, helped a number of orchestras raise operating funds and reach a wider audience. Knowing this, the SMSO approached Prager earlier this year to enlist his help, and he was keen to be of service. He had always wanted to perform the Haydn, but before agreeing to program the four-movement symphony, music director Guido Lamell needed to establish that Prager could actually conduct a work of this magnitude no small matter.

...Prager ping....
That’s great. Love Prager, met him a few times.
Saw AMADEUS again with the family on Friday night (I love watching the movies I’d only seen on VHS on my huge 4K/HD whatever-it-is...)
Had to laugh at the movie-style “conducting:” wiggling hands in the air and pointing at the sections.
very good. I heard leftists hate groups tried to boycott him and mess up the concert, glad they failed.
Yes, they did. So that is why this is newsworthy, that they were not able to boycott him or shut down his performance.
To the contrary, the controversy may have helped him get a sellout crowd.
Reminds me a bit, on a smaller scale, of the leftist attempt to shut down Chick Fil A. Rather than see massive declines in business, which the leftists thought would happen, due to the owner being against homosexual marriage, instead, the business of Chick Fil A increased.
This sort of thing may be the leftists Achilles heel. These leftists are so smug, so arrogant, that they can’t conceive of anyone being against leftist theology, that they can’t understand why things don’t go their way.
So they couldn’t understand why people weren’t shocked, just shocked, that Chick Fil A’s founder opposed homosexual marriage, and that upon learning this, all the decent people in the world would shun that chain. They behaved in the opposite manner.
The leftists here can’t understand that, knowing that Dennis Prager is a prominent conservative talk radio host, how anyone could patronize a concert conducted by him. To the left, it seems obvious that people should boycott such a performance instead.
The left can’t understand how anyone can oppose their dictates.
I don’t see how lefties can be at all involved in the performances of Dead White Guy music.
It’s racis’ and fascist.
GREAT ARTICLE.
Dennis is a national treasure.
Listening to him every morning helps me realize I am not all alone in this bizarro political world today. He reveres clarity, and that is what you get from him. Listen for one hour and you will be hooked, if you haven’t heard him. You might have to get his app if his show isn’t on where you live. Worth it.
I couldn’t believe lefties couldn’t stand someone on the right making music. How in any way shape or form is that from making black honorees enter the hotel from the service entrance, or allowing gay students to be beaten nearly to death behind the gym?
I was there.
Got great seats. The concert was amazing. Dennis Prager got a Standing O from all of us Pragernauts. The regular conductor (Guido Lommell..sp?) even wondered if everyone was there for Dennis. You betcha. His voice (Prager’s not Guido’s) is our voice.
And Dennis is a very good conductor. Best night of classical music I’ve ever had.
Thank you for bringing back the chick Filet memory. Just like with Prager, I really really love it when our side fights back against the nasty hateful left and wins.
How could he have the skills for this?
How could anyone hate Prager? He is so calm compared to other blowhards on the radio. Never seen him raise his voice and would rather talk to people who disagree with him instead of ranting and raving. I like Mr Prager. When I don’t have XM radio in my company car his is the only talker I listen to.
Serious study.
I heard a while back that he taught classes on the 5 Books of Moses in Hebrew. A true renaissance man.
I like Prager. A lot. He has continued to deeply influence my life going on 20 years now.
The only nit I’d pick with him are the materials for sale at his website are, IMHO, prohibitively expensive.
Certainly he is entitled to make money on his products, but I’m priced out of his ballpark on most of his stuff.
A real kicker came in his announcements for info on attending his High Holy Day services. I sent an email, and lo, it really surprised me that each service is $220.00 per individual. Wow!
I figure that rabbis (which he is not) draw salaries for their work. But as I said, that is out of my league.
He’s writing a series of books on Torah, the first of which is due out next year. I’m hoping that their price range will more closely match my wallet’s as I do believe he has a great deal to say on Biblical themes and those of our day.
Okay. Off rant.
