A Trump adviser says that after a tumultuous seven months in office, it had finally dawned on the president: "People really f@&@ing hate me." For someone who has spent his life lapping up adulation, however fake, it was a harsh realization. This is a man with an especially acute need for affirmation.
This week's bear hug of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer opened Trump's eyes to one solution: Stop doing things that people hate, and start striking deals.
Who knows if this will stick. But there's reason to think it might, according to Trump's friends and aides. Here's why, based on conversations Jonathan Swan and I had in the aftermath of the surprising deal:
He can blame Republicans for his troubles. Trump has convinced himself he was duped by GOP leaders into repealing health care and blowing his first seven months on a fool's errand. If he can strike a few deals, he can reshape history to make the party not himself the culprit.
He can please the kids and New Yorkers. With the banishment of Bannon and his allies, Trump is left with a largely moderate to Democratic staff.
A senior administration official said of Trump's deal with Chuck and Nancy: "He just wanted to do something popular." He's reveling in the coverage, including lavish praise from "Morning Joe."
He can spend money, not take it away. Trump hates complex topics and gravitates to things you can build, such as planes or new infrastructure projects.
Remember he told Republican senators the House healthcare bill was "one mean sonofabitch." He said he wanted the Senate version to be much more generous, with no worry about cost.

Why in heck do they keep reporting Trump needs adulation? Personally, I figure he knows the left are idiots and doesn’t care what they think, as long as he is true to himself and the country.
Projection too. They cannot imagine a fellow hoping in God which is how he acts
It has nothing to do with “likability”. Trump has real low “likability”. But Trump reintroduced nationalism and pride back into the political discourse which propelled him to victory.. The GOP is globalist through and through and Trump is not.
Damn, had to look that one up. LOL
Makes me laugh every time I see it.
First he gives her a punch in the nose and then an elbow in the eye.

Hillary loves the fact that McMaster has purged the NSC of all the pro-Trump people. She loves the fact that Bannon and Gorka are gone with both saying the people there do not represent what people voted for. She loves the fact that General Kelly has isolated Trump and friends of his like Bolton can no longer visit and he’s left to make an appeal in a news outlet to hope Trump sees it. She loves that Keith Schiller, Trump’s friend and longtime bodyguard has left the White House in part because of Kelly. Sheriff Clark was blocked from a job by Kelly. She loves the fact that pro-Trump people who submitted resumes to Greatagain.gov couldn’t get their applications though.
She also loves that you are cool with all of it. Keep up the good work. You are making her proud.
They are going to work on the outside because they could get nothing done on the inside because they were in a minority. Read their resignation letters. Now they will work from the outside, but they should not have had to.
Apparently, the leftist “solution” is for Trump to not be Trump at all, but instead be Hillary, because practically all institutions in the U.S. LOVE Hillary!
btw, wsj just came out with a poll that showed 98% of the Pubs who voted for Trump both in the primary and the election approve of his work as President. That is, the enemedia is massively failing in their massive propaganda attacks against Trump.
“it had finally dawned on the president: “People really f@&@ing hate me.””
patently fake news.
“Whose side are you on, Pinkbell?”
Pinkbell is a MAJOR anti-Trumper who was banned several months ago for obnoxious attacks here on Trump and his supporters.
unfortunately, pinkbell was unbanned and has continued their anti-trump campaign here, but in a subtle enough fashion to avoid being banned again.
Congress is the SWAMP and they keep their ‘deep state’ well funded on both sides of the political aisle.
Do not worry about President Trump's so called ‘favorable press’ you are making up the slack.
I have never been banned from this site. You are lying. I also am not an anti-Trumper. I voted for him in the primaries and in the general election. I also have a pro-Trump blog wherein I put more hours than you can count into in depth posts defending Trump and debunking lies about him. You are lying again.
You Got That right about the anti-trumper Pinkbell - a worthless POS who for some strange reason was “unbanned”
‘Pinkbell is a MAJOR anti-Trumper’
That’s my impression. Posting articles like this one, brimful of lies and Trump-hate, is not the action of a Trump supporter. Mike Allen’s drivel does not need to be supported on FR. I can’t imagine an actual conservative pushing his biased, toxic views.
This is a LIE. I was never banned. I have never said a bad word to you, and to lie and call me a POS is unbelievable.
I have a pro-Trump blog, and I hate Trump? This is insanity.

Short term “observation” which says much more about Ryan/McConnell and others than it does about Trump. President Trump has the People on his mind and the rest have their own personal concerns which they hold way beyond the job they swore to do. Trump despises what the Dems stand for but he has to despise the RINOs even worse at this juncture.
Spot-On!!!!
“He has put DACA on a path to be legalized . . . “
It was always on a path, just refer to Rubio, Flake, Graham, Cornyn, Kyl, Martinez, Brownback and McCain over the years like in 2013 then also look to every year from 2005-2012 as well. All while Republicans on and off held both houses. They have been swinging for the same fence but We the People got into their way and then we committed the ultimate sin of electing an outsider to be President over some of the same people listed above.

In anything but your reality, Trump has set a time stamp for Congress to submit for his consideration, nobody else and we know the Republicans can’t even find their asses with both hands tied behind them.
Then you and other short thinkers start with the supposed meaning of ‘revisit’ and try to turn it into pass. What he said in revisiting is that he is on the sidelines to see if they can do anything and in that ‘revisit’ he could also just say there is no political will of the elected representatives, you know, the ones who write legislation, to present to him and either kill it or let the courts do it as they would have just like they did with DAPA.
Trump has given up trying to work with these fools and for the short haul, placing it in their laps to stink it up real good so it can’t go anywhere. Then, like every other so-called controversial thing he does, comes out as the one who was right all along, to the consternation of the media whores and the Ruling Class bitches.
