Current radar shows the eye moving straight North for a landfall east of Naples. This would be GREAT for people on the coast and the Tampa area. Even Naples benefits being on the milder west side of the storm.

Trof has really dug south into the Gulf, Irma is elongating to just west of due North, that often is an indicator of the future track. Track has been to the east of the forecast.

Yes, if it keeps up with the NNW motion, then landfall will be just to the east of Everglades City, east of Naples. I don;t know if going over the everglades will take some steam out of her but it seems to me that would be better than skirting the west coast of Florida feeding off the warmth of the GOM.
