The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

I can swim but I can’t fly on my own!
I guess I’ll just stay on this side of the river. :-)
“Rev. Jeffress was being interviewed last week and he said that he was in some meeting with PDJT recently, and Trump asked, Dont you think we should pray about this? Rev. was laughing and said, The President was reminding ME that we should pray! ...”
Good for PDJT !!

Officials in some areas are warning that they will NOT be responding to 911 calls — because of safety concerns for personnel and due to the number of calls.
“The 8am location was 24.5N 81.5W. IRMA has gone straight north in the past two hours.”
That’s what I got too. If it holds Naples and Tampa are spared and she winds down sooner.
I get it but it seems more like Ebonics spelled as trof.
Yes, if it keeps up with the NNW motion, then landfall will be just to the east of Everglades City, east of Naples. I don;t know if going over the everglades will take some steam out of her but it seems to me that would be better than skirting the west coast of Florida feeding off the warmth of the GOM.
Depends on the policy, most have some type of ALE or Additional Living Expense for being out of your home. Some policies ALE covers only after the home is damaged but some do cover evacuations before a catastrophe.
In some ways I think this is better for Tampa and others as the storm surge may be bad instead of horrific.
Joe Bastardi reduced continental landfall from Cat 5 to Cat 4. Twitter.

As a [Los Angeles] California native and multiple homeowner, I can say that earthquake insurance is prohibitively priced. To the point that it is very rare indeed to find any structure that has it.
He had it going east and then up to NC. Lost creds I’m hunkering down in Cape Coral. I’ve been watching this thing go consistently west west west. Could kick myself for not going with my gut and the European modrl.
Exactly.
My guess is they’re also the first to criticize those who don’t evacuate on an uncertain forecast if indeed their location gets hit hard.
do you have a link for this?
Amazing post.
Hey, that presumably means they still have power.
