The entire Florida Peninsula and points north are poised to experience Hurricane Irma after the storm hugged Cuba's northern coastline. Thousands of Floridians who evacuated the Atlantic cost to Gulf Coast areas found their safe shelter under direct threat from Hurricane Irma as the forecast shifted W Friday night and Saturday. Hurricane Irma's prolonged interaction with Cuba diminished its strength to Category 3.
Irma is forecast to increase in strength as it crosses the FL Straits. The Florida Keys experienced strong outer bands while Irma grazed the N Cuba coastline.

I remember in late 2005, something made me wake up at 5am and log in, to see Wilma had bombed out overnight. Stunning.
That’s a satellite loop I linked to, not radar, and the turn has begun. It’s heading for Key West now.
Again, fronts are not steering the hurricane, surface winds are.
If still dawdling by day, a wind will be coming off the land. Push her south?

I asked over on the Irma II thread, but not long B4 III supplanted it, so I didn’t really get a good answer:
Does anyone have a link or graphic of a detailed look at the past track? That is, good enough to clearly see Irma’s “wobbles” the last few days. It’s curiosity on my part / wondering if there is a pattern to it. I know most such storms wobble at least a little; in this case, Irma seems to have been almost skipping along the coast of Cuba. Plus, I wonder if it will continue to wobble that much, once it turns more NW or NNW? Hmmm...

That said, the cranky weather guy did not necessarily say that he believed this.
His comment was.....”While #wxtwitter is rife with nonsensical debates over Irma intensity - she’s getting ready to quickly deepen & destroy SW FLA. GNight.”
The way I read it was that the nonsensical debaters were the ones who were saying that she’s going to destroy SWFL.
It could be read more than one way.
I just figured that he was sick of the doom and gloomers and was checking out for the night.
In other words, significant intensification in one hour.
Watching that long loop radar I posted, it almost looks “stuck”, but I expect that will change soon enough...
That’s scary. It happened in Mobile Bay during Hurricane Frederic too.
Mr. mm worked with a guy who was new to the area and when it happened to him the first time, he drove back and forth into and out of the band about 5 times, just not believing his eyes.
It’s kind of funny but I shouldn’t laugh.
