TIBURON A resident of an exclusive San Francisco Bay neighborhood is the target of online outrage and may face criminal charges for shooting to death a doe and its fawn that were eating newly installed landscaping.
Tiburon police arrested Mark Dickinson, 54, shortly after 5 a.m. on Sept. 2. Officers were responding to a report of a suspicious person when they found two severely injured deer in the street near Dickinson's bay-view home. The animals died a short time later.
Officers arrested Dickinson after they determined he shot the deer several times with a high-powered pellet gun with scope, laser and flashlight attachment, according to chief Michael Cronin.
Cronin said Dickinson told officers he meant to scare away the deer, which were eating decorative plants. Dickinson was booked and released from jail Sept. 2.
Dickinson's lawyer Charles Dresow said the killing was an accident.
"My client did not intend to harm the animals," Dresow said in an email. "The public outrage related to these allegations is driven by the inflammatory claims of the Tiburon Police Department which haven't been proven in Court.

Did he eat them? Otherwise wasted, and charged to boot.
My living area features phalanxes of completely non-Bambi deer that regard all humans as Vegas replenishers of their chaffing dishes —your garden.
Your lush hedge can be COMPLETELY GONE the very next day.
I hope those two deer suffered horribly before dying in tears.
So the killing of an unborn child is o.k., but you’ll get arrested if you happen to kill a baby dear? That’s Marin County for you. Pathetic
Yep. Too many people see deer as these lovely Disney creatures. Truth is, they’re nothing but oversized rats. I know. There’s ton of them in Northeast WI where I live.
They said, “an exculsive neighborhood so, no deer.
He was not very humane about it.
Deer eat my flowers, Bobcat eat the deer, I just don’t spend much on flowers.
I live in a pretty inclusive place, all sorts of critters.
Be carefull. do it quickly and follow the 3 S’s. Shoot. Shovel.
Shut-up.
(Before you shovel....avail yourself of some fine rump roasts and backstraps)
Killing vermin is applauded in a sane society.
Sorry, I’m on the side of the deer. We have lots of them around here. If you need to kill deer for food to survive, then have at it: No problem. Otherwise let these beautiful creatures be.
My Grandfather lived just north of Madison next to a large marsh. Had a small apple orchard next to the house.
Never took more than a day to bag his choice for the year.
Bad choice. Fine him. Eat the meat.
One of the stupidest critters on the planet, too! A business associate of mine was riding his motorcycle with his wife one fine day during the rut season a few years ago. A buck leap from a roadside hill and landed on the back of his wife. She was so banged up, she spent about a month in the hospital and never fully recovered. I kid you not!
God I hate these kinds of people, and I hate lawyers even more.
Tiburon, north of San Francisco:
Maybe NO house there is under 1 million dollars, maybe one TOTAL dump for $950,000...?
Very many homes there are $5 million and up, some WAAAAY up.
One of the finest places in the SF Bay Area to live.
Maybe only Belvedere Island or Sea Cliff are more expensive.
You’ve obviously never had to spend $4000 to fix what looks, at first glance, like a minor ding to your car, after hitting a deer.
No way. You have the right to arm bears, not deer.
"Doe!"
I actually have to tell deer to get out of the way because they seem to believe that they own the neighborhood. I recommend that anyone who wants to protect the area around their home from deer fence it.
