REPORT: House Conservatives Quietly Plotting Removal of Paul Ryan as Speaker
thegatewaypundit.com ^ | 9/7/17 | Joshua Caplan

Several influential House conservatives are privately plotting ways to use the legislative calendar this fall to push their hard-line agenda — including quiet discussions about possibly mounting a leadership challenge to House Speaker Paul D. Ryan.

The group has gone so far as to float the idea of recruiting former House speaker Newt Gingrich or former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum as potential replacements for Ryan (R-Wis.) should there be a rebellion. The Constitution does not require that an elected member of the House serve as speaker.

While the chances that a non-House member could mount a credible threat to Ryan are exceedingly slim, the fact the group has even toyed with the idea underscores their desire to create trouble for GOP leaders if they believe their demands are not being addressed.

The closed-door conversations are being led by Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, in consultation with his allies on the right, in particular Stephen K. Bannon, President Trump’s former chief strategist who recently returned to his perch as executive chairman of the Breitbart News website. Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and other Freedom Caucus members are also involved in the talks to varying degrees, according to nearly a dozen people with knowledge of the discussions.

What about McConnell? He’ll still be obstructing conservative bills in the Senate. He doesn’t come up for re-electon until 2020.

You missed the point entirely.

Gingrich is compromised. He’s part of the problem.

Gingrich did ONE thing good back in 94. And people who want him to return due to that ONE thing have not factored in every wrong thing he has done since then.

What point would it be to have Newt as Speaker? So he and Nancy can have frequent photo ops over and over again?

Same ones who had, not one, but two chances to dump Boehner and lost their backbones each time before the vote for speaker?

At the rate the Pubbies are going, Pelosi will be the next speaker anyway. Dems — even as the minority — have more leadership capabilities than the Pubbies.

Both Ryan and McConnell are EPIC FAIL, but they are not so unlike Hastert and Frist-Lott. The Pubbies have no oomph for leadership roles. Even now, they are more than satisfied to let Pelosi and Schumer work with President Trump.

Too bad there isn’t an alternative party worth anything.

Palin, Ann Coulter, Mark Stein, Matt Drudge, Walter Williams, Alex Jones, Rush, Tucker, Cernovich.

Which of them can get 218? Nothing matters before that.

Why 218? Plurality is required by the Constitution.

Ryan was selected not elected. Prior vote was banished.

Quit parroting propaganda.

YES Plurality only.
NO Super majority, NO Majority.

Why are so many FReepers ill informed?

Question all propaganda.

US Constitution rules by PLURALITY.

If Palin or Bannon can out vote Ryan,
they are SPEAKER.

I REALLY AM TIRED OF CORRECTING THESE VOTE ERRORS.
Over and over again. Ugh.

US Constitution rules by PLURALITY.

Where in the Constitution does it lay out the voting procedure for the SOH?

Although no rule exists, based on tradition and practice from the earliest days of the nation, to be elected speaker a candidate must receive an absolute majority of all votes cast for individuals, i.e. excluding those who abstain. If no candidate wins such a majority, then the roll call is repeated until a speaker is elected. The last time repeated votes were required was in 1923, when the Speaker was elected on the ninth ballot.[5]

I REALLY AM TIRED OF CORRECTING THESE VOTE ERRORS

I feel your pain.

Well I learned another thing today: "The Constitution does not require that an elected member of the House serve as speaker."
Great, then bring on Newt. The guy is brilliant. Or what about Steve Scalise?
