Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

I like what Ryan Maue said about this: this is one storm in which the exact path won’t really matter. The size of the windfield means that everybody on the Fla peninsula is going to be impacted. Yes, the winds will taper off more quickly on the east coast than the west, but virtually the entire state will see hurricane-force winds.
It’ll start with Cat 5 on the keys, tapering to a high Cat 1 by Tallahassee/I-10. The swath is going to be epic.
I’m just hoping that the model trend that looks to be edging slowly westward stops... the longer that eye is over water, the slower the weakening will be.
Cuba would be the jewel in China’s crown.
Bob,
If it goes into the Gulf, the Gulf is screwed. The warm waters will turn it into a Cat 5 again.
This hurricane is not going to go througb Central Fl.
Now that is sooo interesting showing clearly what so many have been saying......
Joe Bastadi coming up now on Hannity...
If you don’t have the Zello app, download it on your cell phone and listen for opportunities to assist!
Sometimes people just need information about where they can get gas, and how the traffic is at a certain place. That’s something every Freeper can do!
Well the reporter didn’t indicate that at all.....I hate reporters! They never tell it like it is and mislead often....
They all have to sell the soap.
Been there, done that.
Exactly why I do not subscribe to globull warming.
Then that’s a no-brainer... Zone B in Tampa? Yeah - get out the extra towels and make a bed. They should leave tonight if there’s enough gas to get them to Mobile (use the route through Perry... it’s 515 miles or so).
I assume so... perhaps I should check
It's actually more like "someone needs to tell the ridge". As powerful as she is, Irma is at the mercy of that big ridge. But the NHC thinks the trough is going to get there, and they know a lot more about it than I do.
It looks like Katie has been spitting from the gulf over Northern Florida ta boot....eye is indeed larger....
Just LOL!
Katia is the X-Factor. I think they forecasts didn’t consider it enough.
Also watching the Braves...and the Marlins are trying to blow it open in the 9th.
