Dangerous Category 5 Hurricane Irma had a devastating impact on islands in the Caribbean.
Hurricane and Storm surge watches were issued Thursday morning for South Florida. The Florida Keys began evacuating visitors and residents, followed by flood zones in Miami and Miami Beach. Sarasota FL declared a local state of emergency Thursday morning.
Polk County FL Sheriff Grady Judd said Wednesday that law enforcement authorities would check the identities of people who turn up at shelters--and take to jail anyone found to have an active arrest warrant. If you go to a shelter for Irma and you have a warrant, well gladly escort you to the safe and secure shelter called the Polk County Jail... If you have a warrant, turn yourself in to the jail its a secure shelter. Judd also posted that sex offenders and sex predators would not be admitted to the shelters. "We cannot and we will not have innocent children in a shelter with sexual offenders & predators. Period." Judd's statements unleashed a liberal firestorm via Twitter.

Yes, they had it hitting the west coast from the very beginning. They moved it a little east one time, and then right back to west coast again.
We have a prayer group.I will post it.Let us know how things shake out.((((Hugs))))
Thank God. Many of us have been praying.
Will you have to separate from your kitties once you arrive, or will your lodging places let you stay together?
“Notice that they have it hanging round for a day in Tennessee”
And we here in the Knoxville area aren’t happy about that. Hubby was at Home Depot today, and there was a run on generators.
The ditzball thinks very highly of herself. Such a sad waste.
It does appear that the ‘good end’ of Tennessee will be spared...relatively speaking.
My sister is there...said she would stay two days ago...what is happening?
I can’t even imagine what Highway 1 must be like now.
OTOH, maybe it’s relatively uncrowded as many have already fled.
I’m guessing it’ll turn into a real mess as you get north of Key Largo and try to get onto Highway 821 to get to US-75.
In Marathon, the Voice Of America has a set of really tall antennae that broadcast (Radio Marti) into Cuba. If the winds are as bad as expected, I suspect those towers will be toppled. I don’t know if their broadcast facilities are there though.
Yikes!
There are many, many thousands of people who evacuated So FL to Orlando.
My fear, with so much family in Central Florida, is another jog west where Irma goes up the west side of Florida with the center of circulation offshore.
CJ, Whew!, and God bless.
BTW - There are plenty rooms in the ATL area. Check my posts to you. We *will* get wind/rain but no storm surge. (I’m prepping as I post)
Storm surges are the killers for anyone not in ‘cane country.
Copied everyone else you responded to your post (I think).
Read the warnings in red in Post #1248——Anna Maria is mentioned.
.
Thanks for posting that
The forecast tracks appear to show Irma picking up forward speed over Florida.
How close are you to Huntsville?
I have a good friend there.
about 40 miles north east, 35 from Chattanooga.
