Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

They’re Trump’s dreamers now. The way he’s handled this, he’s managed to incur the wrath of both sides.

Congress is afraid to legalize it, and the President knows it. The Republicans know most of the DACA are Dem voters, their approval of DACA as is political suicide.

I think you hit the nail in the face. It's like "the best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it". This isn't even a law so he is daring them to make it a law.

LS,

Everything was perfect..until that “re-visit” tweet.
What is there to re-visit if congress can’t get it done?
Why re-visit something that is already phased out?
That tweet was unnecessary.
It has Javanka written all over it.

Or he could also be saying..Don’t worry Ivanka and you poor Dreamers. I will take action if Congress doesn’t. Which, of course, he can’t do because Sessions just said it was unconstitutional.

“We love the Dreamers”

DJT

Do you love them too?

My pessimism is spot on.

The same reason that they passed Obamacare repeal when Obama would veto it.

It was a valuable issue to keep a large section of the base appeased without actually harming their electoral chances.

They know that actual deportations of Dreamers will be a political calamity.

So, they’ll now make the EO law, and Trump will sign it - providing them the political cover they need during primary season.

The devil or savior is in the details. The Dream Act was part of the 2006 Hegel-Martinez, 2007 McCain-Kennedy, and 2013 Gang of 8 amnesties. There are many sticking points in trying to legalize permanently the “Dreamers.” I suspect that Congress will have a hard time passing anything.

Trump has not caved. He is trying to create pressure on Congress to legislate, which will provide him the opportunity to obtain funding for The Wall and for other enforcement measures. Why do so many panic Irma-style when nothing has happened other than an article designed to stir the pot? The odds are that our do-nothing Congress will fail to act anyway, because the RINOs and Dems would rather see “Dreamers” deported and the Wall go un-built because they would view these as political weapons against Trump which is all they care about.

I’s really simple, Congress has to decide if illegal alien issues are more important than American citizens issues. They better choose wisely

Yes, it does.

And just like with much of what Ivanka does when she tweets her lib views.....she doesn’t get support from the lib side..and many in the base don’t like it either.

You need to take your head out.
No wall.
Obamacare still rules.
If you think a Reagan style tax cut will happen, well good luck with that.
No civil rights protections for patriots being attacked.
True Conservatives banished from the Administration.
Most all accomplishments reversible by a stroke of the pen.
Aside from Nikki Haley all appointees either mediocre or atrocious.
First year of term, when most accomplishments are achieved, basically over.

We are being played.

McCain will sit there shocked in 2021...

FWIW, McCain isn't likely to be around in 2021. Glioblastoma has a statistically poor prognosis.

Thanks - I meant to say the same. It would be very hard, arguably impeachable, if Trump ignored the conclusion of the Attorney General when implementing executive direction.

Trump would first have to get Sessions to flip...and as disappointed as many here are with Sessions, he’s not about to flip on DACA.

All the Dreamers (and I hate that word in this context) had to reveal themselves in order to qualify. Anyway that announced themselves will be punished for attempting to comply with what they thought was the law.

Politically, that will work in safe districts, but Ryan and McConnell don’t want to test that image in any district that’s on the fence.

My personal belief is that the tweet was to try to take the heat off from Ivanka and the Dream supporters.

But all it is has done is anger both sides.
