Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

I suspect this is why Trump pardoned Joe Arpaio. He's mistaken if he believes that we can't see right through this kind of crap. The establishment has done stuff like this for years. The pardon was good, but the media made it into a much bigger deal than it actually was. It was insignificant to the future of our nation compared to issues we are facing like DACA. The Pardon and DACA can't be compared when it comes to the actual affects they will have on our nation. It's insulting when people try to compare issues like these.

It seemed obvious to me that the pardon was done to give the base a small victory to counter an unpopular decision that was coming on a much more significant issue. It looks like DACA was that issue. I hope Trump changes course because this strategy won't work. It's issues like amnesty that will fracture his base, and if that happens he's finished. He's the only person with the power to make that happen. I hope he understands that. It's not as easy to manipulate voters these days.

Take away from the illegal aliens all subsidies, income, and legal shielding by targeting the agencies, companies, and bureaus that provide them. They will then self-deport. There's no value in staying in the USA when you are broke and hungry, with no means to fix either, and must always be on the lookout for the law. No frog marching is required. It is the cheapest strategy and solution possible. I'd even contribute gas money for their exodus. If that becomes Trump's ambition, I'll wholeheartedly support him.

DACA is still in effect. President Trump, for some reason, didn’t end it immediately.

I hope you are correct, but I see this as the mirror image of Obamacare.

With Obamacare they were happy to vote repeal and have him veto the bill each time. This gave them cover with the base-” well we tried the repeal but we just can’t override the veto.” Then once obama was gone they suddenly didn’t have the votes.

Daca on the other hand they could rant and rail against Obama for an unconstitutional action but never quite muster enough votes to fix it. This allowed them to tell us-” we tried. This is illegal, but we do not have the votes.” The dems were happy as more illegals were allowed to stay and the chamber of commerce-cheap labor express was also taken care of. Now they may suddenly have enough votes to pass Daca.

Some would say this is a good thing because we’ll know where McCain et all stand and we can primary them. But I’ve got to ask, do we really not know where the Susan Collins crowd stands?

Losing on Daca for the sake of exposing more Rinos doesn’t seem to buy us much. If we want to turn up the pressure why not start deporting people en masse?

Because just as “the art of taxation consists in so plucking the goose as to obtain the largest possible amount of feathers with the smallest possible amount of hissing.”

So fixing everything when the entire establishment is against you, requires timing, coordination, strategery, etc.

It requires "flooding the zone" so that your enemies cannot isolate and focus on one thing.

Look, Trump is the only guy on our side. He will fail at some things. He will be great at others. At times he will greatly disappoint us. We are in for the ride.

Relax.

As I said on a prior post, the messaging in the tweet is atrocious. I’ll ask it again, WTF does ““I will revisit this issue!” mean? He should have said, “It is now time for Congress to act!” Instead of righteously hanging DACA around Congress’ neck, he assumes responsibility. That’s exactly the wrong message.

If he had truly placed it in the hands of Congress he would have tweeted “It is now time for Congress to act!” instead of “I will revisit this issue!” Instead of righteously hanging DACA around Congress’ neck, he assumes responsibility. That’s exactly the wrong message.

You may be right.

You also may be completely wrong.

"I will revisit this issue" can mean anything. Time will tell. I'm OK with waiting (as if I have a choice).

The SCOTUS has already weighed in. DACA is illegal. There’s absolutely nothing for Trump to revisit. It’s in the hands of Congress if anything else is to be done.

I would observe kindly, that a portion of what you posted is correct. What else can be done is an open issue.

More importantly, Trump's tweet is vague enough that he may just be deflecting the issue and playing the middle (virtue signaling).

Why get torqued out of shape when we won't know for 6 months?

I don’t think he caved here. As other FReepers have pointed out he is putting DACA squarely on the shoulders of Congress which is the GOP. If they put their names to it, they’ll get primary’d easily the next time they are up. If they do manage to pass a bill and it goes to Trump’s desk he vetoes it. If it goes to the SC it gets shot down.

Make no mistake any DACA bill that makes it to his desk will be veto’d and the RINO’s that passed it will be hanging themselves.

My prediction is that Congress doesn’t pass a DACA bill, and in 6 months dreamers become illegal.

Thanks for posting the reality versus the Oh Noes from our pearl clutchers.

In his inimitable fashion, Trump has handed the Congress its a** on a plate. The burden of DACA shifted squarely to the shoulders of Congress (where it belongs), no matter what they do or don’t do.

A win-win for Trump, plus an added bonus if Congress DOES pass something.

Trump weighs in: “why haven’t you passed what you promised to pass on other issues.......issues that are beneficial to Americans?”

(Smirk) Trump has Congress in a choke hold, the oxygen is being cut off, and there’s no good way for them to ‘tap out.’ Congress deserves every bit of this.....the lazy, lying, cowardly snakes. (hat tip Qiviut)

We are seeing that with less guys hanging out by Home Depot and Orchard.

Less of the rambling wreck old pu trucks with
yard care gear on and in the back of the truck.

Our yard guy, legal for over 2 decades had two interesting twists on what’s is happening:

1. He lost one of his guys, legal with green card, but his wife was not. They went back to Mexico.
2. He told us to hold on referrals to him as he has all the new business he can handle since Trump became president. I told him, this would be a good time to get rid of some bad customers. He agreed.

A son of friends, a true WASP had a great yard maintenance business down here and sold out and moved north last year. The guys, he sold out to wanted him back to handle the premium accts as they have all the business they can handle with the illegal yard guys heading back to Mexico. So he is back here until the winter storms hit and will head back north to ski during the winter.
