Trump to Congress: Legalize DACA! (or I Will Revisit)
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Sep 2017 | Adam Shaw

President Trump called on Congress to “legalize” DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally — promising that he will “revisit this issue” if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order — known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.

“The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences,” Sessions said. “It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.”

The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.

The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform “that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would “revisit this issue” if Congress did not “legalize DACA.”

Good grief....Trump caved on his “No Amnesty” pledge.

______

I don’t think it should be looked at like that, or calling anything a “pledge” from Trump. I think for Trump everything he says is a negotiating chip.

Spot on, FRiend, spot on. This is how our system works (at least up until Obama got hold of it -- but we are fixing that).

He is telling Congress to enact a law giving amnesty to DACA recipients. What part of that can you possibly not understand?

And of course they have enough votes to pass it—particularly with Trump giving the RINOs cover.

It was GOP opposition to Obama that kept him from being able to get it legally enacted. Now Trump will fulfill Obama’s wishes by being able to get it done.

Lyin’ Ryan has proven time & again he’s anti-Trump in word & deed. I sincerely hope he gets Cantorized next year.

The denials here are astounding.

LOL. The same folks hysterically telling us a few days ago that Trump wouldn’t end DACA are now parsing his every word looking to validate their opinions.

What’s Really a astouding is “conservatives” abandoning POTUS so soon after Charlottesville. With friends like this, who needs enemies?

1. I don't see it the way you do, as apparently a literalist.
2. If Congress can scrape together the votes in the midst of primary season and coordinate with the Senate and compromise, maybe they will pass something. Our system works this way.
3. Trump will veto or not.
4. I've never expected Trump to be perfect. I don't expect any politician to ever be perfect. I'm the FR Mayor of Realville. If we get good Supreme Court and Federal Court judges and roll back things as he is doing, I'm happy. He will have problems and make some bad decisions, just as Ronaldus Maximus did. It is the human condition.

More than that, none of us know.

So I guess that means you are for Amnesty? Right?

Obviously I’m for amnesty for 20 million illegals and full open borders. Strawman arguments like that are a favorite tool of Democrats. Are you one by chance?

Feel free to sit in your chair and day dream about deporting 800,000 DACA wetbacks. That’s never going to happen. Better to join POTUS in the real world and help get a wall built and Kate’s Law passed.

AMEN & AMEN!!!

The anti-Trump faction on FR is hysterical about President Trump’s tweet about “revisiting DACA” while completely ignoring his tweet yesterday:

“I look forward to working w/ D’s + R’s in Congress to address immigration reform in a way that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.”

The NeverTrump folks can never seem to consider the totality of President Trump’s comments & focus on interpreting them in the absolute worst light possible. Then they try to pass their disordered logic off as fact.

“No need to bookmark. I can guarantee you will be unhappy with POTUS because this issue won’t end with 800,000 wetbacks being frog marched across the border in chains. Time to join Realville, FRiend.”

Strange way to talk if you aren’t for amnesty.

Just wait and see. Post is bookmarked. I will remind you when it’s time for Trump to sign the bill.

I’ve noticed the Congressional Black Caucus is very quiet and cool about DACA. They only mention their support through a Tri-Caucus Cong group.

Rush just mentioned an article that 30% are hardened criminals.

Is there anything in the WH or Trump statements in posts 171 and 163 that makes it clear Trump's position is "Legalize DACA!"??

No there isn't!

Remember Trump telling us over and over about the business colleague/friend who told Trump “we couldn't figure you out”??

People need to relax a bit.

Actually, there is something but it is not clear. It is , at a minimum, cover for the heat he is getting.

Where he goes with it even he probably doesn’t know.

I do believe he will sign an amnesty law for DACA if Congress can get it passed. We better get something more than expanded border security for that capitulation.

He was by far the best shot we had.

Maybe somehow he will wake up in time.

And yes, things like Gorsuch matter—though the next judge will possibly swing the court and so likely be more significant as a nominating act.

Explain. President Trump has rescinded DACA. What promise is broken?

Did you not get the point of the article? Trump is not saying "Get rid of DACA" Which is what he promised. What is saying now just after "rescinding" DACA is "Congress, make DACA legal," which is installing it as a legal entity, not getting rid of it. The result desired was to send the aliens AND their children home to their own country. That's not happening.

Excellent list—thank you!

America has got to stop the gravy train. It’s unfair not only to native, natural-born citizens, but to those immigrants who jumped through all the hoops, filled out all the paperwork, did the interviews, etc. The latter group has put time and energy into becoming citizens.

Trump’s methods remind me of the Godfather movies.

Yes! He's making them an offer they can't refuse. ;)

Be careful, boys and girls, or you might wake up to a horse's head next to you. LOL!
