I’m surrounded by fires here in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana. Both of my evacuation trailers are parked in front of the house in case I need to drive off the mountain and out of the woods.
Damn scary times.
I have a solution:
Rotate the American Continent 180 degrees.
This will allow Irma to put out the fires.
Plus the illegal immigrants headed north will find themselves in the artic.
Heading home now from Missoula to Tacoma. Smoke so bad yesterday it was like twilight all day. Very surreal. Just outside of Wallace Idaho and really getting thick. Snoqualmie pass will be interesting.
From SE of Portland in the foothills: no moon seen last night, red sun this morning. Did a sum of burnt acres yesterday in the State and it is approaching that of the Tillamook Burn in the 1930’s. My late mother recalled seeing the smoke from that fire in North Dakota back then. Looks like Woodsy Owl has become a burnt offering on the alter of environmentalism. Wait for the wailing and gnashing of teeth when the rains come and mess up salmon spawning beds. Watch the mud flow down when trees are no longer there to stop soil errossion. There is moisture coming up from the south later this week, but concerned that it will produce dry lightning. I don’t expect any serious rain til later this month.
Eagle Creek Fire jumped Columbia River overnight....

Could you put this thread in BREAKING NEWS, please.
CHETCO Fire has grown to over 150,000 acres (Southern Oregon)...more evacuations are going on. Illinois Valley on Level 3 evac I believe, and they’ve been told no new resources available to help.
We’re getting some pretty good haze here in central New Mexico from large fires in CA. Wasn’t sure what it was at first, as the last time it was like this, we could actually smell the smoke in the air, but there’s no smell, just the haze.
Prayers for all involved.
I-84 which is closed is a MAJOR highway through the Columbia Gorge. Hwy 30 is closed, also, and there are limits on traffic on the Washington side of the Gorge also.
The last week has been pretty much smoke-free, but there is a heavy pall here (88 miles NNE of Seattle) as of this morning. When the sun does show, it is an angry red, but it is completely obscured most of the time.
The temperature is being slightly moderated, but the air “feels” heavy. It’s only 77* @ 51% humidity, but it seems like 90*.
Global warming?
Trump Dreamer Revocation?
Gaia’s curse?
NorK threat?
Large amount of smoke in Golden, Colorado area yesterday
I’m not one to see Biblical themes in every disaster.
But the US is taking a beating right now and no let up in sight.
I’m in Texas in Corpus. I’m sorry the fires are not getting the attention they deserve.
There was a book a I read recently where forest fires were set by terrorist cells all across the American west.
Fire Wars - Forest Fire Jihad in AmericaJune 17, 2013
Bill Scott, a senior fellow at ACD, warned about such a scenario last July, speaking at the ACD/EWI Economic Threats briefing on Capital Hill. An expert on aerial firefighting, he presented a sobering analysis of the devastating Waldo Canyon Fire (Colorado Springs, CO), pointing out that the striking rise Western U.S. wildfires may be caused by elements other than nature.
He noted that in spring 2012, al-Qaedas English-language online magazine, Inspire, published an article called It Is of Your Freedom to Ignite a Firebomb, which featured instructions on how to build an incendiary bomb to light forests on fire.
A few months later, Russias security (FSB) chief, Aleksandr Bortnikov warned, al-Qaeda was complicit in recent forest fires in Europe as part of the terrorists strategy of a thousand cuts.
Bortnikov spoke of extremist sites [that] contained detailed instructions of waging the forest jihad and stressed that such a method had proved itself effective as it inflicted both physical and moral damage, needed little training or investment and it was extremely hard for police to find and apprehend the arsonists.
Since then, more fatwas advocating that Fire is cheap, easy and effective tool for economic warfare have been issued. Theyve included detailed instructions for constructing remote-controlled ember bombs, and how to set fires without leaving a trace.

I tend to think some of these fires are being purposely set .....and that not by Americans.
