President Trump says the antiquated policy, drawn from the Fourteenth Amendment of the Constitution, remains the biggest magnet for illegal immigration and he is correct. The parents of those Dreamers risked everything to come to the U.S. for jobs and security, but also knowing that any future children would automatically become American citizens.

Except that it would take a Constitutional amendment (14th amendment) to change that and opening up that process to the Dems would usurp the rest of Trump’s tenure and open up the Constitution to unreasonable changes.
I’d go for it, too, but I fear it will be the same as $x in tax increases in return for $3x in spending cuts. The tax increases (i.e., permanently staying) always come first, and the spending cuts (i.e., birthright elimination) never materialize.

It’s interesting...if the GOP caves on DACA, then we may well see a WHOLESALE PURGE of them in their Primaries - giving the timing 6 months from now. Which then means that they’ll be replaced by conservatives (in most cases)...and we may even put an end to Paul Ryan as Speaker...and similarly in the Senate.

That would be an acceptable deal. Trump can test his deal-making skills by trading dreamers for an act that clearly defines birthright citizenship under the 14th amendment as to people who are born to citizens.

That takes care of the "birthright citizenship." All that has to be done is recognize that the child of two Slobbovian citizens is not born naturally subject to the jurisdiction of the United States but, rather, to the Jurisdiction of Slobbovia.
Great idea. That would stop thousands of Chinese women from coming to the US to give birth. Birthright citizenship was a grave misinterpretation of the 14th amendment giving citizenship to slaves brought here against their will and should never have been applied to children of illegal aliens who willfully broke our laws.

All the President is doing is undoing another illegal usurpation of power by Obama.
The power over foreign immigration is delegated solely to Congress through Article 1 section 8 clause 4; To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization. Because it is delegated under Article 1, we know this power is specifically vested in Congress. Separation of powers dictates that since the power to establish this Rule is rests in Congress, it cannot be exercised by any other branch. We can see that the executive branch cannot establish the Rule of Naturalization.

Keep DACA? So we will continue to process the illegal alien “children” who enter this country? DACA doesn’t require them to be brought in by their illegal alien parents. We had a flood of “unaccompanied children” who came across the Southern border just a few years ago. The attraction? DACA. When you reward something, you get more of it.
