Sacramento approves $1.5 million to tackle gun violence
9/01/17 | by Jennifer Cruz
The city of Sacramento is tackling gang violence.
Critics claim the council just voted unanimously to pay folks not to commit crimes. So what's the deal? We spoke with the Director of the Mayor's Gang Prevention and Intervention Task Force back in March. We asked just how big a deal is gang violence here in Sacramento?
It's a part of an 18-month program where those involved get job-training and mentoring. If they complete six months successfully, they could also receive up to $1,000 per month for nine months.

Sacramento Vice Mayor Rick Jennings, who also chairs the task force, explained officials have been discussing the program for six months. The need is there, the program has shown results and our community cant wait. The time is now for action to address gun violence, Jennings said.

Well, if they pay them a salary to not commit crime, they’ll fall out of practice and forget how (deadpan look.)
Sounds like a page out of Kim's playbook.
You can still shoot people. You just need to be in the program to do it.
All gangs have a connection back to drug trafficking. This idea that a $1,000 a month will entice them to change is rather humorous.
So now they’re paying protection money to these thugs (”nice town ya got here.....be a shame if something were to happen to it.”)
So Sacramento is starting its own protection racket?
This is about the dumbest thing I’ve heard, but it’s from California, so......
Seems to me the voluntary payment makes the City Council co-conspirators of a criminal enterprise. Feds should send marshals to arrest them all and seize the city charter. Then they can bring in Fed troops and clean out the illegal aliens and gang members.
The money goes to ‘Advance Peace’ group with no strings attached ...
Maybe they should instead give the cops some incentive to arrest these gang members....
Didn’t the city of Richmond, CA try or do this? Don’t recall exactly but it was a city in the Bay Area. I guess we’re not going to see how that turned out!!!
Sacramento used to be a great city to live and work in. Loved the downtown area where I worked and the easy access to shop on lunch hours and after work - crisscrossing K Street until that was changed and ruined. In the late ‘50’s, I lived near the Capitol and walked to work through that beautiful park with huge and gorgeous Camellias. There is not one relative living in that city now or even in the county!
Tsk, tsk.
How dare you suggest that the Sacremento City Council resort to law enforcement.
"homey, Sacremento city council will gives us a thousand dollars tax free every month."
too many failures in Psych 1A.
Punks will take the money and run, because the libs will keep loosening the constraints on receiving the money.
The Democrat big cities are not concerned about Middle class flight from their cities and in fact can’t wait until they have the numbers to ensure that they are voted in office for life.

Yep because someone will say it’s racist or something
Doing the same thing, over and over, and expecting a different result, is a sure sign of insanity.
Isn’t this the same play we’ve been working with North Korea for years?
Greed will win the day. Before long, the payoff just “won’t be enough”. They’ll demand more. Refusal to pay will mean they’ve used those millions to purchase more weapons and personnel, and there will be pandemonium.
Do politicians ever LEARN anything?
Eventually California will run out of other people’s money.
Good! Maybe that will encourage more MS13 gang members to move there.
Isn’t this proposal just sanctioned protection money?
Sorry, you shot someone this month.
So, you don’t get grand this month.
Try again next month.
