How bad has gun violence gotten in Sacramento, Calif.? City leaders now plan to pay gang members $1.5 million for a cease-fire. Following a fatal shooting last weekend in a city park, the Sacramento city council unanimously approved a controversial program called Advance Peace in an effort to address a recent spike in violence. The program offers gang members cash stipends for graduating from school and generally staying out of trouble.

Chino Prison has openings..!!
Great post. I had never read that. Prescient poetry.
I finished school and stayed out of trouble. No money. Because I’m white and am expected to do that, and not to kill, set fires or rape. No reward money for me and none for them!
Will they pay muzzies to not cut heads?
If Sacramento city leaders give $1.5M to criminals, then the Sacramento leaders need to be tried, convicted, and sentenced to hang for giving aid and comfort to the enemy.
Oh, heck, throw in the California state leaders while you’re at it; you can reuse the rope.
We’re paying Dane-geld to China? How so?
So true
Who said crime doesn’t pay?

Crazy extortion racket in reverse where politicians willingly agree to give away taxpayer’s money to criminals rather than do their sworn LE duty.
Pay some vigilantes half that to wipe out the gangs and give them blanket immunities.
Lost in all of this is that the mentors (ha ha) are not role models, they are ex-cons or parolees, and just might not be giving, ahem, good advice.
And, btw, what about gun laws? Likely all of these gang members carry, and likely none of them have (or even qualify to have) California licenses to do so. Should there not be a weapons accounting on a continual basis? (Maybe there is, I do not know everything about this program.)
And, I saw no metrics of success, in other words, how would Sacto know if the program works? (They will find a way to call the program a success, however, that is how govt works.)
You've heard of the dust bowl exodus? Look for the great Cali Exodus, citizens (real ones) who can't take any more punishment for living in the once golden state.
I write this as a native of Cali, and a happy former citizen of this formerly great state.

I can see it now.
Sacramento pays gang member (GM) , GM shoots someone, Sacramento withholds payment for breach of contract, GM sues, Court rules Sacramento’s action of withholding payment is discriminatory so GM wins, Sacramento pays settlement then figures they aren’t paying GM enough so they increase payments...
Sometimes the stupidity absolutely amazes me. The cliché “what could possibly go wrong” immediately comes to mind.
No kidding. They’ll get their money and nothing will change. Or they’ll demand more to “get serious.”
Was it Kipling who said, paraphrasing, ‘The problem with Danegeld is you can never be rid of the Dane.’
Only in California! (For now!)
Beat me to it!
Copying a Richmond, Calif program.
A Sept. 2016 ABC article praising the program and it’s star ‘fellow’: Dawaun Rice:
http://abcnews.go.com/US/dangerous-california-city-young-men-money-expense-paid/story?id=38190781
“Editors Note as of Sept. 25 2016: ABC News had previously reported that Dawaun Rice had no new gun charges since becoming a fellow, but that is no longer the case.”
The star ‘fellow’ was indicted in May for two murders- which happened while he was collecting $1300 a month from the program.
This worked out SO well for The Stones at Altamont.
I hope all the former gang members are wearing body armor at their graduation ceremony.
Aw, man! I was expecting Blue Oyster Cult in the punchline!
Cool, $1.5M will buy a lot of guns and ammo to resupply during the "Ceasefire".
Not direct payments to China, but huge trade surpluses, transfer of technology to China, intellectual property theft by China.
