The leak to Politico came from two officials, according to the Politico article.
President Donald Trump has decided to end the Obama-era program that grants work permits to undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as children, according to two sources familiar with his thinking.
Trump’s decision will anger business interests, progressives, and the establishment media sector, and some business-friendly GOP leaders, such as House Speaker Paul Ryan. But the decision likely will be broadly popular among the majority of Americans.
Many polls show that Americans sympathize with the illegals, but also strongly prefer that immigration laws be used to ensure that Americans workers are not disadvantaged by the corporate hiring of cheap illegal migrants.

Why is it always assumed that these illegal alien families are automatically burdened because they must return to their country of origin? The vast majority of these people have come here from Mexico. Does Mexico suck so bad that going there constitutes a hardship? Why do we allow this discussion to adopt the asinine position that virtually everyone that comes here illegally can claim refugee status? Trump did the right thing by ending DACA. I agree with ending the program with new arrivals but the ones that have already come out and been given work permits should be allowed to stay.

Only people who apply for and get permanent residency status may apply for citizenship.

According to his oath of office he has no choice. DACA is contrary to the present laws on immigration which the president is duty bound to enforce. The president does not get to choose which laws he wants to enforce and which he does not.
