White House Statement on North Korea
The Guardian and Fox News ^ | September 3, 2017 | Several

Posted on 09/03/2017 12:32:28 PM PDT by Reno89519

Defense secretary James Mattis has spoken outside the White House. “We are not looking for the annihilation of North Korea, we have many options,” he says.

He also said that “any threat to the United States or its territories including Guam or our allies will be met with a massive military response.”

He said more than that. The clause which followed should give you pause to rethink your assertion:

“... Because we are not looking to the total anihilation of a country, namely north Korea - but, as I said, we have many options TO DO SO.”

Got that?

We are not looking for total annihilation - BUT “we have many options to do so.”

That last clause sorta changes the tenor, contrary to all the pearl clutchers here, who are going on and on about our “weakness.”

There is only one way to end this and unfortunately it is with a nuke. The biggest threat to the south is Nork artillery. Take that away and the north is done. That’s been their strategy for 60 years and it hasn’t changed.

"Can we EMP the Norkies without EMPing Seoul?"

Sure, with a few low altitude shots. Looks like a plan, eh?

;-)

Thank you for adding the rest of the sentence! Didn’t think Trump would send Mattis out to do the talking if there is any other message he wants delivered. Trump already issued a warning. This one means Mattis has been given authority to do what has long been planned.

Hit the Norks with multiple nukes, both strategic and tactical - Put two strategic 15 MT nukes on Pyongyang, and hit all their military installations with tactical nukes. Destroy their command and communications structure in a 1 millisecond blinding purple flash. There will be no artillery remaining to hit Seoul.

Have not read that yet. Interesting concept, but suspect mostly concept at this point. As far as I know, no one has demonstrated, tested or in combat an EMP weapon. To me this is about on par with Y2K. I’ll give you that loss of electricity in a big city like New York or Los Angeles or Chicago, which are barely civilized anyway, would be devastating, I don’t think others would be as immediately impacted. Our biggest threat would be the first week or two going through Internet withdraw. We’d be a country of very irritable people.

I totally agree that our actions are making our words ring hollow. I am 100% behind Trump here if he takes the action necessary to save this country and its people from what is obviously already here!! HYDROGEN BOMB??? Are you kidding me? One EMP from that fat faced bastard and we are in the stone age killing each other for food. DO SOMETHING!! PREEMPTIVE STRIKE NOW!! Better they die than our innocent civilians!!

I disagree that they would have time to do squat. We hit the DMZ artillery FIRST with tactical nukes and they are all gone real quick. Then we nuke the hell out of Pyongyang and their nuclear sites and missile silos. Some crap will get through but it’s them or us. We are in massive denial. We better snap out of it.

It can be done. It only takes a national security memorandum issued by the president from a president willing to do it. GM can either build its Buicks outside of China or forget about selling them to the U.S. The same would apply to Apple and all the rest. Does anyone think, given that Apple’s market valuation is in dollars, that Apple wants its millions of Chinese customers more than its millions of U.S. customers. Taiwan based Foxconn (they assemble all the Apple devices made in China, is already talking of building its next Apple factory in the U.S. Japan is likely to follow such a directive by the U.S. to building factories for U.S. manufacturers in other locales in Asia outside of China, and they have the logistics and supply chain to do it, once the investment incentive was presented; which such a declaration by the U.S. would do.

Altogether, it is not a matter of “can’t”, it is only a matter of will power by a U.S. president willing to force China to play ball 100% with us on ENDING the nuclear ambitions of North Korea.

China will give, before GM will lose business.

I know there’s debate about the actual consequences of an EMP and how far reaching it would be.

I remember the Northeast Blackout of 2003 and how easy that spread and how far it reached.

Nevertheless, the scenario he portrays in the book could be quite feasible and most people are not at all prepared for the consequences of something that could shut down the grid for an indefinite period of time.

You should check the book out of the library if you don’t want to spend the money on buying it.

It’s very good. Very thought provoking.

"Should we go ahead and invade them now? "

No! America should not invade North Korea.
That is South Korea's duty to do so.
North Koreans are their relatives and their
fellow "country" men. It's their duty to bring
the North Koreans back to some semblance of sanity.

It's their obligation to straighten out the mess the
Kim's have made of their northern territory. And their
obligation to pay for it!

I hope you’re right. By “can’t” I meant, if they leave China they leave their state of the art factory for China to take over an build cars to sell all over in competition. I’m sure the companies made all sorts of concessions to China in order to get permission to build factories there. At this date in time, it would serve them right. If you don’t want the Clapp, stay out of the brothel.

When Boeing got a big order from China for airliners, the stipulation was that Boeing had to build factories in China and build the planes in China. Some day, when “for some reason” there’s a falling out, and Boeing has to leave; voila! Shiny big factory and trained workforce all in place. Velly genellous, those Amelicans. JMHO.

It seems to me that's the Trump card, so to speak. We'll see more sanctions against the Norks and their trading partners, most especially the Chinese.

China cannot like the idea of SK and Japan joining the Nuke Club.
