The first fifteen minutes especially. The frat rush. ROTC
The Omegas pushing The Wimp and The Blimp over to the Deplorables Bunch was the funniest movie scene ever
I’ve never been in a movie house where the audience was bent over laughing. The theater was nuts. 1978. I think most us knew people like the characters and could relate
I have been to two movies where the audience lost it due to laughing. Animal House and four years earlier with Blazing Saddles.
The movie was so close to the college atmosphere of the 60s. We had a term called “RFing” for pranks like killing a horse in someone’s room. No, we didn’t do anything like that, but the whole scenario was the same. I knew what the punchline was—guy with the chainsaw—before he appeared on the screen. As crazy as college life was in the 60s, in so many ways it looks positively old-fashioned. Imagine there was a time when guys could not get any farther than the lobby in a girls’ dorm. Imagine a time when there were such things as girls’ and guys’ dorms. Imagine a time when girls and guys knew which were which.
