Houston's 'Cajun Navy,' brilliantly profiled

The most remarkable fact about the horrible events in Texas was the minimal loss of life and of storm-related injuries. Much credit goes to the long advance warning, early and near total evacuations of "Ground Zero" residents, other preparations, and the fact that Hurricane Harvey's landfall was at a sparsely populated section of the coast.

For all of that, we must be most grateful.

The biggest lesson that must be reinforced is "stay out of your car," since many of the deaths were related to drownings associated with vehicle travel.

The most engrossing story is that of the "Cajun Navy."

We'll never know how many lives were saved by the Cajun Navy (and other rescuers) in personal watercraft, but it is indisputable that great human suffering was mitigated by the evacuation of hundreds (probably thousands) of people by this nebulous coterie of selfless volunteers hauling them from danger and discomfort to safety.

"At a time such as this, you want the guys who can still thread a line when their hands are wet and cold[.] ... Spending hours in monsoon rains doesn't bother them, because they know ducks don't just show up on a plate, and they've learned what most of us haven't, that dry comfort is not the only thing worth seeking."

Oh, say, could someone round up a bunch of good ol' boys to lend a hand? BANG! Red necks and coonasses showed up. Any of them gonna seek reimbursement for their costs of helping out? Not to mention, some showed up from the far side of Looze-ee-anna to help out. And guess what else. They were helping rescue fellow human beings regardless of race. Even though the hate mongers have been saying otherwise. Thanks to all that are able to provide assistance and big prayers up for them.

And this has the Left absolutely livid.

Damn right! Those Swamp Rats were snatchin’ people out of the water and dropping ‘em off in front of a big pot of burgoo, then turning right back around and looking for other people who needed help. God bless them all.

The Washington Post article was posted here yesterday http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3581851/posts

The New York Times had a similar article
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/08/29/us/volunteer-rescue-crews-hurricane-harvey-houston.html?mcubz=0

The NYT spin: “The working class, in large part, is being saved by the working class.”

"God Bless the Cajun Navy!"

And yet there are people on this very site who have disparaged this effort, equating them with thieves.

I am from Louisiana (though haven't resided there in over 20 years), and watched the CN being born in Katrina (family in Jefferson Parish), growing up in Denham Springs (flooding in Baton Rouge...sister in law evacuated/rescued), and maturing in Houston (two sisters-in=law, many nieces, though none thus far have needed rescue).

I grew up among folks like this, and they are displaying the best of Christian charity, and the independence and self-reliance of conservative America. And the alt-left hates them for it.

So yes, God Bless the Cajun Navy.

The left was hoping for a repeat one New Orleans and couldn’t care less about the poor people in The Houston area, most of whom vote Democrat. All Dems care about is having another crisis to exploit for political ends.
