S tanding at almost 5’10” in my stocking feet, I’ve never been much for wearing high heels. I feel freakishly tall in them, but that’s never stopped me from envying women who can pull off towering pumps and sandals—particularly the sexy, spiky kind—because it is much harder than it looks. Gracefully navigating sidewalks, stairs, and dance floors on six-inch needles requires a type of agility and confidence—not to mention sobriety—few women possess altogether and at once.
So perhaps that’s why the claws came out at the sight of Melania Trump’s stilettos Tuesday morning. The first lady boarded Air Force One to travel to Houston wearing snakeskin heels, black ankle pants and an Army-green bomber jacket. When I saw her, I thought, “Wow, she looks amazing.” Because she did.
Others did not share my admiration. The Mean Girls of Social Media quickly took the first lady to task for her inappropriate footwear. How could she wade through chest-high water to rescue abandoned dogs at Texas trailer parks in a pair of Louboutins? Holly O’Reilly, organizer of the MarchforTruth, which is pushing the Trump-Russia election collusion conspiracy, weighed in shortly after Air Force One took off:

Somebody on another thread was relating what his son told him about the SJWs at his high school. He said it was about 50 kids, they were all misfits and outcasts, and they used the SJWs bit to attack the cool kids. The more they attack, the more they are shunned, and thus angrier and angrier they get. It was kind of enlightening.

They hate her though their knowledge of her is almost nil. Everyone knows that pretty, shapely women often wear their spiked heels with their jeans. Melania was leaving her home to get on the helicopter and then the plane to go to Texas when the madness erupted. When she arrived, it was obvious that her tennis shoes were already stashed on the plane for her visit. She should wear the cat scratches from the radical, frumpy, feminists like a badge of honor because her good looks, her motherhood, her joy in being a REAL girl, and, now her power as First Lady drives them so crazy that they cannot help but show that insanity to the world. Melania drives them nuts anytime the camera gets a shot of her because she is always beautiful and always graceful which are traits hard to come by in her haters. Do they not know that all this falls back on their own heads?
Had to look; sorry I did. Could be someone’s kindly granny, except for the haircut, hair color, rouge spots and drawn on lipline. Oh, and the clothing.
I once loved fashion. Worked at the retail level when it was pure commission. Designed, manufactured and sold my own line. Loved to dress up, use makeup, etc. Now, decades later, I’m trying to recall if the influencers were as freakish then as they are now. I don’t think so, but maybe I was too close to see.
She looks great. Love the outfit, too.
