A dog owner accused of abandoning his pet found frightened and alone atop a car surrounded by rising Harvey flood waters wants him back.
And rescuers have agreed to return the animal.
CBS11 reporter J.D. Miles shared video of the pit bulls plight, which quickly went viral. People were outraged by the implication that his owners left their 3-year-old dog named Blue behind.
But Blues owner Charles Rogers says rescuers are the ones to blame not him.

Gee, those darn "resucuers!" They are the ones to blame!! (sarcasm)
“He says he grabbed one of his small dogs but agonized over leaving Blue.”
Punk.
We had a flash flood right down the road from my house.
The family saved their cat but had their dog in the basement locked in a crate.
Instead of going to get the dog, which would have taken all of 2 minutes, as the basement was actually mostly above ground and the door was *right there*, where he was standing, [water was not deep enough to be a peril to the guy] he stayed outside fiddling with his car, instead.
The dog sat there and slowly awaited his death while his master made sure his car was safe.
[it got slammed into a tree and totaled]
They had no insurance and the community built them a brand new, fancy house.
And the faithful, loving little dog died horribly, waiting for someone to come save him.
Then they had the unmitigated gall to publicly ‘grieve’ over that dog, which influenced the people who built them a free house.
If I’d known the dog was trapped, I’d have just walked over and gotten him out.
Not that I hold a grudge, mind you.
/no dog left behind
As for this guy in the new story, and his wife are lying. He just didn't give a damn. The sad part is that the dog is being returned to them.
“Our pets are part of our family. And we are partners. It’s a special relationship.”
I never thought about it until reading this story. But outside of those civilizations that developed with a strong hunting dog, wardog, or herding dog tradition, dogs are not valued as anything other than status or in some cases a food source.
In these predominantly European and in some cases, mountain cultures, dogs who shared your bed, your fire, your food, and risks daily, did indeed become partners and even more, a member of the family.
And over millennium, this relationship has become hard-coded not only into the dogs, but also into the men and thier families with whom they live.
Like I said I’ve never given this a great deal of thought. But on initial review, it seems to hold true.
I also know from first-hand experience, at least in the white middle-class culture, dogs become substitute children for women. I don’t know if that’s also the case, having no experience with it, in black urban cultures.
Good God, how pet owners could be so damned callous is way beyond me.
The other mission that dogs have gained throughout history sprung from that first mission, security.
These things would never happen if humans truly loved dogs enough to set them free to do their own thing; I love animals so much nobody should keep them as pets.
BS to the Amish thugs lies .
I am sick of this subculture mess.
As a former resident of Nola.
This is typical Amish behavior .
Dogs are treated as disposal items .
They left the dog to drown and now return it.
That dog will be dropped in a shelter within a year.
that effing turd
You must not live in a rural area. People often set dogs free there to “do their own thing.” The dogs join packs, starve, or are killed by wild animals. How loving.
Interesting that some tribes of baboons capture feral puppies, and raise them as watch standers. It's agonizing to watch, but they're featured on YouTube.
Agreed.
Please don’t set your pets “free.”
They are domesticated and cannot live without us.
I wish only death to all baboons. Just fyi. There are also on youtube videos of them eating gazelle and antelope babies. If you can watch those and feel differently you are a better person than I.
Also, Pitbulls seem to be a breed that many blacks want. I am not know why. There was an incident a couple of years ago where an African-American man wrapped duct tape so tight around a poor dog that it cut through the dog’s face and deformed its jaw. It was infuriating to see the pictures. Some in “the community” thought it was funny.
I can never understand why people own dogs and force them to live outside chained to the dog house......
If you live out in the country, as I do, you'll see many animals permanently 'set free' by their 'captors'.
It's not quite as pretty as you dream it is.
In Sicily, if you go to a park, you are surrounded by feral dogs if you have food. They look neither happy nor cared for. For some reason, the Italians are not big on caring for dogs or cats (unless it is a lap dog). It’s why they have “The Gatti” who try to feed and care for all the feral cats.
I hate people who chain up dogs in the back yard. They should turn their unloved pets over to the Humane Society.
By the way, I enjoyed your posts yesterday on the gouging stories. I’m still arguing with some nut about it.
I just do not understand why people like that have animals. I know not everyone feels the same way I do about my animals, but then why do they have them?
