WASHINGTON (AP) President Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Harvey-caused epic flooding, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the presidents border wall.
The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agencys disaster relief account is part of a massive spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when lawmakers return from their August recess. The $876 million cut, which is included in the 1,305-page measures homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trumps down payment on the U.S.-Mexico border wall that the president repeatedly promised Mexico would finance.
It seems sure that GOP leaders will move to reverse it next week as floodwaters cover Houston, the nations fourth-largest city, and tens of thousands of Texans have sought refuge in shelters. Theres only $2.3 billion remaining in federal disaster coffers.

No kidding man
I bet every Senator is lining up his pork projects to add to a Harvey relief bill
They are disgusting people
Never let a serious crisis go to waste.
No words to describe my real hate for them.
Trump needs to call these snakes out now in a preemptive strike via an emergency session of Congress to vote on a clean relief package right now !
1300+ pages of lawyer speak, that no body will bother to read\debate, but have no problem(s) passing in the dead of night....as it balloons over 2k pages.
Remember peeps, this is YOUR tax $$$. Stolen by way of the gun, for purposes unauthorized.
So EASY to vote for ‘charity’...when it’s not YOUR $$ on the line.
Those aren’t allies
The lying cowardly bastards need to pass tax reform, help out Harvey victims, and then cut useless spending
See how Ryan works?
McConnell is Senate majority leader. He has nothing to do with the House.
This is Houston’s third “hundred-year” flood in three years. After Katrina there were questions as to why we should pay to rebuild below sea level.
Is it reasonable to ask why we should pay to rebuild on such low land along the Texan Gulf coast?
In fact, as I think about it, why don’t we rebuild along the border? It’s cheaper there, and we can siphon plenty off of that $100B spending to put up a real wall—not just the cheap fence that the border patrol union wants.
These scumbags are trying to force Trump into making a Hobson’s choice.
Add the border wall funding to the increase in disaster aid for Texas, Louisiana, etc. Put the dems in a no win situation.
First thought upon reading this?
‘Those m*therfocking b@stards!’
You can set a clock by them! @#$%^&*! Grrrrrrrr!
Is there any precedent for a sitting president to repudiate his party and start a new one on the spot?
Wewant that damned wall!! NOW. these Texans will boot strap themselves. They are TEXANS!! they don’t need government handouts. They will pick themselves up, dust themselves off and move on. We want th WALL!~!
Because, Swamp.
I hope there aren’t any republicans holding their breath for my vote. I will vote for the candidate but never the GOP again. Never.
Turtle, we can’t control the weather. We can control our borders. Do it or start updating your resumes.
He works in this house. McConnell's on the left side. the "House" chamber(capital "H") is on the right:
The title of the post said "House" because it was the first word in the sentence, not because it was referring to the House chamber.
