Thanks. Hopefully a fish storm, as NN said.

They know what’s going to happen. Everyone must evacuate. Ft Lauderdale too. And the Keys.

Because of our government’s bankruptcy, our power grid on the island is very weak and it won’t take much to take it down.

Hiya cll...Forecast models are in rather good agreement today for Irma to skirt north of PR late next week.

Currently, Irma is a rather compact storm. Wind field outward from storm's center appears to be fluctuating today between 15-25 miles for hurricane force winds, and 90-105 miles for tropical storm force winds. Hopefully, the smallish wind field will hold for the duration.

Hey, yes, thank God it is looking better. Earlier today there was a bit of panic out there and there was a run on supplies as we haven’t had a major storm since ‘98. Things have calmed down a bit tonight but we’ll definitely keep an eye on this one and the one behind it. These next couple of weeks are very stressful for us as we feel like we’re on the wrong end of a shooting range with all those Cape Verde storms spawning out there. I’m sure you know the feeling!

I’ll keep you posted on the local and regional circus as events warrant...

This one is going to be a bit close for comfort. I hope it washes out to sea. God knows Texas cannot take another hit and I have a week at Hatteras coming up soon.

Latest forecast has Irma passing close to Puerto Rico as a Category 5 around late Wed/early Thurs. San Juan may get hit hard by storm surge.

Sorry, 140mph winds would make it still a Cat 4. I mixed knots with mph.

On the off chance you haven't seen NHC Advisory update, Irma wind field is expanding as noted in earlier NHC Discussion.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 35 miles (55 km) from
the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140
miles (220 km).

Yes, thanks. It looks like we’ll be hit with at least tropical storm force winds in San Juan, where I live.

Today we got sort of a practice run, with a tropical wave that went through with heavy rains and significant wind gusts. So at least I got to see where it was flooding in and around the house and the neighborhood so we got started on preparations with a good reference. I predict we will be without power for a day or two so you might not hear from me from Thursday through Saturday. We’ll see.

Incidentally, being as this thread was posted way too early, and since the U.S. east coast is now possibly threatened, you are welcome to start a new thread so it stays nearer to the top of the feed. I certainly don’t want to own this storm!

Take care.

I’m old but look 15 years younger than I should.

I suspect it was all the narcotics.

I recommend everyone evacuate Georgia except me.

Oh, and leave all your guns.

Looks like Irma will track through Hebert Box. South FL and NC will need to stay alert if this is the case.

Didn’t know that area had that designation. A rule of thumb for us is, if the storm tracks north of Guadeloupe, it will miss Puerto Rico to the north. If the storm tracks just south of Martinique, it will miss at least the eastern half of our island (where most people live and work). But if it goes over Dominica (between Guadeloupe and Martinique) it will be a complete, direct hit along all of Puerto Rico.
