Here in KY a LOT of coal fired power plants are being replaced with Natural Gas. It’s just a lot cheaper.
FWIW, it’s where I work.
FWIW, IWIW.
yes but....... as the amount of gas is used increases at some point the cost will rise and the difference between gas and coal will diminish.
I spent a large part of my working career in and around coal fired electric plants. They are dirty, but the newer technology has made emissions much cleaner. They are just fine, so long as one does not count CO2 as a pollutant.
The coal plants that were closed during the Obozo administration were such a waste. They could have bee phased out, but were shuttered with many useful years left. Economic insanity by an anti growth administration.
Can the plants be converted back to coal, easily?
Ya know, don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.....:)
I live within 50 miles of 10 coal fired plants along the Ohio. I assumed that there would be a partial conversion to natural gas but I haven’t seen it. Where are you seeing this take place?
