I lived in Houston for ten years. Left fifteen years ago. Even then an ordinary traffic day could turn into complete city-wide gridlock under the wrong set of circumstances. You tell people to evacuate and within the hour the whole city will be in gridlock and no one will go anywhere for days.
And I thought Dallas traffic was bad, it has nothing on Houston.
Oh so the city is too big to evacuate defense right?
That’s like saying to people on the Titanic after it struck the iceberg. It’s too big to evacuate, and besides we did not practice for this. So don’t go anywhere.
Then there are the people who spread the rumor that the evacuation route is 610.....
Agreed that evacuation of the entire city is not feasible.
People could have been advised to assess their own situation and evacuate if they believed they were in a low lying area. The city could have provided lists of those areas to assist.
That might have helped—a little.
But—there is no good solution for this quantity of rain.
