The MTV Video Music Awards are always a big night for pop music, but were also dominated by political statements at a fiery show in Los Angeles. Artists spoke out against white supremacy and urged suicide awareness during the awards on Sunday night. Transgender military personnel attended, days after President Donald Trump signed a directive to ban them. Kendrick Lamar was the night's big winner, picking up six awards including video of the year for HUMBLE.
The video, directed by Dave Meyers, takes a wry look at the rapper's growing fame and sees him dressing up as a pope and taking part in a Last Supper. Ed Sheeran was named Artist of the Year and Fifth Harmony got the Best Pop Video award for Down. Taylor Swift was a no-show - perhaps wise given her history with awards host Katy Perry - but won best collaboration for her track with Zayn, I Don't Wanna Live Forever. And she debuted the video for Look What You Made Me Do during the awards.
But it was politics that has grabbed most of the night's headlines. There was an appearance from the mother of Heather Heyer, killed during a protest against a far-right march in Charlottesville, Virginia. Susan Bro handed out the Fight Against the System Award, 15 days after Ms Heyer's death. Paying tribute to her daughter, she said: "I miss her, but I know she's here tonight." All six nominees for the award shared the prize. Somali nominee K'naan, whose cover of a Hamilton track paid tribute to the work of immigrants, wore a mock Make America Great Again slogan written in Arabic.
Michael Jackson's daughter, Paris, also spoke out against the violence in Charlottesville, calling out "Nazi white supremacist jerks".

These people don’t get it. Their entire empire is crumbling and they think they are the greatest thing ever.
Katie Perry will get hers. There is a book about what she is, what she does and what’s going to happen. It’s called “The Bible” and I know her parents taught it to her. These audience members will never read even a paragraph of it so I understand their ignorance.
She is one of the biggest weapons and tools that the satanist left uses to make Christ look foolish to their stupid disciples.
Painting her as a victor over her Christian upbringing is enough to make me shun the whole thing.
MTV is no longer relevant to the world.
I wish they would focus on making (much better) music, than spewing nonsense.
I remember when I was told about Katy Perry’s parents and the videos of her singing Christian songs. What a massive shock to my soul.
God usually punishes them by letting them receive the full consequences of what they are doing (Sandi Patti) or takes them out if He feels there is no more way for them to serve (Sam Kinison).
But they still have to face the Lord and see what damage they did.
Katy Perry is already washed up, no new creative songs in years - she's too busy with her left wing activism to attempt to work at her music. Taylor Swift has it ALL OVER loser Perry.
I used to think TS was at least semi talented. After watching that video.... Im just shaking me head. It was horrific...

Sorry, two weeks is not enough time in my opinion to be out handing awards to people you’ve never met just after your daughters been killed. I’m truly sorry for her loss but she is being used by the liberals....I hope she gets that soon or someone tells her.
