“This event is … beyond anything experienced”: National Weather Service‘s ominous warning on Harvey
MSN VOX ^ | August 27, 2017

Posted on 08/27/2017 12:00:43 PM PDT by SMGFan

Since Friday, the National Weather Service has described the impacts Hurricane (and now Tropical Storm) Harvey in superlatives, with forecasts stating the flooding would be “catastrophic” and “life threatening.”

Now, nearly 50 inches of rain (4 feet!) are in the forecast as Harvey stalls over Houston, and the Weather Service is stretching to find the right way to describe the risk.

They’re calling the situation “unprecedented.”

Long-time weather journalists and meteorologists are saying this language is as dire as the National Weather Service gets.

Rains could last through the week. Five are reported dead already. More deaths may come. This situation is likely to get worse before it gets better.

Had just seen elsewhere online a picture of one of the highways underwater in the Houston area. Not good.

Water in my friends’ yards and streets, they can’t get out of their neighborhoods, but so far not in their houses.

Also had gotten an education in TX land areas and never knew that the Houston area is a flood plain.

“Well going by your own map, 50 inches would be the most rainfall ever”

Those are 24hr totals. Let’s hope this does not exceed those numbers. There was little rain in Houston proper in ‘79 while areas 20 miles south got flooded.

Reports from friends in Newport subdivision in Crosby which is east of Houston are that there is unprecedented flooding.

Homes built as long ago as 1979 are flooded with about three feet of water.

These homes have never flooded.

I just posted about flooding in Newport subdivision in Crosby.

I lived in that area my whole life until a couple of years ago and this is unprecedented.

I can’t begin to imagine the cleanup and recovery. This is happening over such a huge area.

Yes, it is. Clean-up will be bad, but not a lot of wind damage.

Honestly, I’m worried about loss of life.

Am hearing from friends about flooding in areas where none before and where people have always been able to ride out flooding.

Glad it’s not in their houses.

Is there going to be a slight break in the weather tonight and tomorrow?! Hubby just told me that it’s possible according to weather channel.

Could make a difference!

Kudos to KHOU 11 of Houston for soldiering on and managing to provide coverage and information for the Houston area.

Station flooded and they have moved twice. Once to the Federal Reserve Building and then to the KUHF public broadcasting station. Partnered with WFAA for reporting and additional coverage.

Good work folks. I’m staying with your coverage.

In 1952 Denise dumped 71.9 inches of rain on Cilaos on the French island of Reunion in 24 ours.

Just saying.

I don't care whether you read what I wrote or not. I stand by EVERYTHING I write in this forum and will put my life on the line for my principles. Watch your mouth before you lump everyone into one group and criticize without thinking.

In regards to God's working in the lives of men, let Him speak for Himself:

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.

I detest the liberal mindset but wouldn’t stoop so low or put myself so high to declare a human disaster such as this a righteous act of God.

I wouldn't have either if you were to have kept control of yourself. Now, I'm thinking maybe God is not happy with a city that votes pro-homosexual leaders into positions of responsibility and does not advise people to evacuate the city while watching a disaster coming straight at it JUST IN ORDER TO TRY AND CREATE A POLITICAL DIFFICULTY FOR A PRESIDENT THEY HATE. No words exist in the English language for that kind of evil that would put so many people at risk for political gain.

Maybe the providence of God IS working on Houston's attitude.

If you want to defend him go ahead

I have no idea of whom you are speaking, but a couple of you on here bit the wrong dog. You really need to shut that mouth and settle down and avoid creating a civil war on this thread for no reason. Otherwise, you disparage your own character. Stop.
